It’s not going to be about ice cream. Desert, as in an area with sand, is today’s topic.
35km from my place, almost in the middle of Europe, there’s a real desert. And it’s not sea sand dunes. It’s a desert, like Sahara, but in miniature.
The desert was formed after withdrawal of glaciers after the last Ice Age. Then a climate warming made it possible for plants to enter. Growing on poor sandy soils, only some grass or pines had a chance.
Then, in late Middle Ages, silver and lead were exploited there. This led to heavy deforestation and re-creation of the post-glacial desert.
Nowadays the process is in the reverse again. Without human touch (it’s a natural reserve), plants slowly enter the desert and try to conquer it.
