I hate the word “stabilisation” when talking to our guests- refugees who found temporary home at our church. They all want to return to their homes. But some homes don’t exist anymore. Some are still standing, but life is impossible and there.
So we needed to help our guests to make themselves at home. Most of the ladies have now a job, children are in schools and kindergartens. They know how to get around (they ride free on public transport), they understand Polish better, they have kitchen and cleaning duties. Normal rhythm of life.
Another word that comes hard - “normality”. It’s not normal to sleep in a room with 15 mattresses on the floor. It’s not normal to be separated from their husbands and and brothers.
Yet, they are here, trying to make the best of it. My and other volunteers’ job is to help them be #AliveAndThriving
