But when you are depressed and you are alone, it is more difficult to get out of that state of mind. So 100% of the work will depend on the desire you have to be able to clear your mind of any sad thoughts.
Here is the testimony of Sandra, who very kindly asked me to echo history:
My name is Sandra, and I am a patient diagnosed with depression and I am here firm, alive, breathing the same air as you. With my ups and downs of mind but learning every day that life is not so bad, on the contrary, life itself has taught me that it has many things to offer me.
I had a difficult childhood and something sad for what it reverberated in my adolescence making me a little lonely. I had my disappointments and loves like everyone else, but after all, those things did not finish taking my sleep away like other young girls of my age because I felt like an empty person, totally aimless and without love for life itself.
As a teenager my inner war was developing more and more to the point that my depressions were more and more constant. On several occasions I tried against my life believing that this was the solution to my problems, but with each failed attempt there was a bigger problem.
One day in the midst of an existential crisis, I decided to ask for professional help and talk about my problems with someone who could handle them. From that moment I started going to sessions with a psychologist.
The first step had already been given, which was to admit that he had a serious problem that should be addressed by an expert in the subject. It was not a short-term solution I must admit, and going through each session was painful because they scrutinized my past and present. But in the end it was healing to drain all the anger and pain that was inside.
I felt like little by little I was taking a weight off.
After a year of sessions and my mind was healed, then came the healing of the soul and the heart that depends only on you. I started to work more and worry less, I became a volunteer in several social services in my city and I started to stop being so close with my friends.
It is incredible the great changes that this has had in my life, it has even given me the confidence to start in the gym and do some exercise.
The important thing is that there is no well dark enough to dim the natural light that we all have inside. Although our environment is difficult and not prosperous, we cannot faint before small things that life puts us as obstacles.
I, Sandra, today I invite you to be happy.
When you feel bad and want to throw in the towel, remember that you are worth gold. Nobody will ever be able to match you, that you are unique and unequaled.
Even if you do not believe it, many are worse off than you and would kill for having the opportunities that you are having at this precise moment.
If, on the other hand, you are the one standing next to the person sunk in depression, I ask you not to tell him to calm down. I'll give you the magic formula, do not say anything, just stay there with her, listen to her and do not judge.
The best thing you can do in those cases is to be an understanding person and give a long hug.
Tears also speak, so do not despair because that person cries a lot.
Being happy is complicated but not impossible. Right at this moment I am being happy to tell my story.
Moral: If you are going through a bad time, it is because you can overcome it, the law of life is just, even if it does not seem so.
You are able to face all the barriers that are placed in front of you.
