Not all first jobs ends well no matter how exciting and rewarding it may had been at first, I think it kinda makes sense because one is excited about the first job when they know it would have been too boring to stay at home and then they get paid for leaving the house... It will get anyone excited about the job at first.
But what happens when your first job becomes a pain in the ass...
Last week I shared a post about my First job as a secretary to a law firm and I wrote about how excited I was to get the job and even more excited to get my first pay. That was one of my few happy moments working there, I had to stop working because of some reasons which I'll share with you.
My last days as a secretary were those days I had to keep bearing the emotional pain given to me by my boss... Yes, my boss was the major cause of my leaving the job.
A story of what happened (according to myself, the secretary)...
Maybe my boss would give another story about what exactly happened but my story is what I know and I'll share with you. It happened just a month after I started working with him, a few days after my first pay and on an early morning in his office.
He called us (the two secretaries) to his office and asked us to sit as he was busy shoving lots of peanuts into his mouth while looking at the newspaper with a sad face, he was always looking fat but that day seemed different because he wasn't in a good mood, I guessed.
I would want you two to go with me to my hometown for my father in law's burial... He said after closing the newspaper he was reading.
As if it was planned, the two of us (his secretaries) said we aren't sure we could go but we would let our parents know about it first (I mean, we were both 18) so asking for permission from our parents was a perfect idea. Here in my country, visiting another's hometown is a risk as we are always told to be extra careful whenever we find ourselves in a strange place.
And that was it, we both later went to the burial ceremony with him and helped out with whatever we could there even though it was nothing related to why we were employed. I can still remember very clearly that he didn't compliment or show appreciation for honouring his invitation, maybe it skipped his mind though.
My boss became abusive with his words...
After we got back, my boss changed and and I still think our rejection at first had something to do with it or maybe we never noticed it when we first started working for him. He would abuse us for little mistakes and send us on errands everyday to get stuffs that doesn't relate to the work we were employed to do. There was a time he sent us to a cooperative centre that had people waiting to see him instead, we got the most intimidating and worse message to relay to him.
We both thought we could bear with the changes he was showing but didn't know for how long. I was expecting to gain admission into a pre degree programme so I felt I could bear with it until I leave but.
A few days to my second pay day, something worse happened...
I came to work early as usual but my boss was there already (I still wonder what brought him to work that early) he rained insults on me for coming late and was waiting to do same to my Co-worker who was yet to arrive. I had to pray inside me that she didn't come to work instead because she was even fragile at heart than I was.
During that day while I got busy with my specified work, he called me to his office and proposed that he'll be cutting down our salaries for reasons best known to him. I innocently asked to know why he planned to do it and he went on with this sentence that sent me out of his office almost in tears.
I am the boss, I decide who and what I pay, go ask your poor parents why they let you work when you could be relaxing or studying at home... Yes, he said stuffs like this.
I didn't tell my mum about it, I just told her I was no longer going to work and I preferred to stay home. The only thing I regretted was not telling him that I was the one who decided to spend my time working even when I could stay home and my parents will take care of me.
I can't say the same story end for my Co-worker but I wished her the best in my prayers... My first job almost tampered with my self esteem but I didn't let it happen.
