Every Financial Decision Needs a Clear "Why"

My family got a big surprise some days ago and just after the celebrations in our hearts about it, we began to panic about how to use the surprise that it doesn't become a story of the past, like it almost never happened. This season of our life is reminding me of what I've been learning a lot.

Before I started to learn about money intentionally, I've been a bad adviser when it comes to how one should earn, use and manage their money. I'm not great at it now but growth has happened and I can not be grateful enough for how much I've learned, especially in savings.

There is a reason for everything, we don't just do things, we do it because of something, someone or a situation. The same habit we bring into our finances, we all spend for different reasons. And even though we may not want to hear it, many of us spend for the worst reasons unintentionally.

While I was having a chat with my sister last night, we both gave ourselves a puzzling questions "Why do we need so much money? What's the real reasons we want to make so much money" We are yet to give an answer but it's a question that will stay in my mind for a while until I figure out enough why I need money.

I know a few would think they know why they need money and most will fall on the "I don't want to have struggle to get anything I want" lane as their reason to make money. It's totally fine actually but I believe one with good discipline will know their needs and wants and still get what they need even if they don't have plenty money.

The same for savings, a lot of people are taught to save but few know why they have to save. Giving your savings a tag of "This is why I'm saving this money" will make the saving experience easier and one would be more excited as they get close to their target. The opposite of that is, taking out the savings for wrong reasons.

My point is, we should have a "why we do what we do" intentionally, especially when it's about our finances, relationship with people and even our relationship with God. The whole idea here, have a why for your actions and don't just have any random why, it should be well thought out.
