Greetings, members of the Hive. I continued my story about how one day we went fishing. There are many people who have a strong interest in fishing. My wife and I love fishing. Although we enjoy eating fish, that is not what piques our interest in fishing. Yes, fish is one of our favorite foods. However, after going on dozens of fishing trips together, we have come to the realization that there are times when we don't bring fish back home, but we still feel happy. We also have to admit that the amount of stress that we feel has gone down a lot!
This time, I'm going to tell you about the time we went fishing in the Tandek and Rakit rivers. The district of Kota Marudu in the state of Sabah is where you'll find both of these rivers. Our first stop was at the Rakit river. In the Rakit river, we went to a location where there was a concrete bridge. For anglers who are serious about their fishing in this region, this location is legendary.
There is a viral story that a group of anglers managed to catch forty fish from this river. And they fished under the bridge. So we tried our luck here this time.
My fishing setup is simple. I use the float setting that I set according to the suitability of the river. Although the river water will wash the float and the hook under it, I can control from above the bridge where it will stop. From the top of this bridge, it can be seen that there is an area in the river that is a deep area, where the water does not flow directly following the main flow but swirls around and creates an area suitable for fish to wait for food.
This is the husband of my sister-in-law, Jasmin. We went out fishing as a group of five; my mother-in-law, my wife, my sister-in-law and her husband, and myself. At first, I was alone on the bridge while the other four fished under the bridge. Once I've landed a fish, Jasmin climbs onto the bridge to join me.
This is the main area I drive my hook with guided using a float. The water in this area is calm, not flowing along the main current of the river but forming a counterclockwise circular vortex. I managed to raise a fish from this area.
Not long after Jasmin joined me on the bridge, an otter from the right side of the river dived in hastily and caught a fish for its meal. It happened so fast, and it didn't occur to me to take a picture. I enjoyed the sight with a sense of awe and trepidation as my fishing hook was still in the area. Slowly I pulled my fishing hook and enjoyed the sight of the otter eating the fish until I forgot to record the scene using my smartphone.
After that incident, I no longer want to fish in the Rakit river for today. The condition of the fish at that time was disturbed by the presence of the predator, the otter. Therefore, I decided to move to the Tandek river.
Like the Rakit river, the Tandek river is also a long river. To get a comfortable, quiet fishing spot, where there are fish, of course, you need experience in the place itself. I took them to a place that is no stranger to legendary anglers. Close to the fishing spot this time, one has to go through a palm plantation, and the place to sit and fish is close to the palm plantation worker's house there. I took our group to the place.
This is the place I mean in Sungai Tandek. Yes, of course there are many other places, but this is my favorite. It is close to the worker's house. The fishing rod in this picture is my wife's fishing rod. It's my favorite fishing rod, it's an Uglystick Ultralight rod with a matching fishing reel.
I still use a float fishing setup. The fishing area in this place is very calm. According to stories, there are crocodiles roaming along the Tandek river, however, I have never seen one. There are people who say it. The water here is very calm. As the saying goes, calm water should not be mistaken for crocodiles. Who wants a crocodile present? I have to admit that crocodile meat is really good! But I don't have the skills to kill crocodiles. It must be a tragedy if the crocodile that the person told about attacks.
Tadaa.! This is one of the reasons why I chose this spot to be our next fishing spot, and since it was almost evening, it was the last spot for this time. This hammock is made by the workers here, they don't mind if we use it for fishing. Spending time fishing with loved ones is definitely an activity that is very worthwhile. I recommend that everyone also do it as often as possible. It is possible that you will also fall in love again and again with your partner. At least that's what happened to us.
The wait is not in vain. My wife managed to raise quite a large fish! Yes, some fish were also successfully raised by us. But this is the main attraction because it's big, and it's rare that we get a fish this big. This rarity also makes workers leave their homes to see the fish. The worker said they had never caught such a big fish in that area. I think good luck is on my wife's side this time, and hopefully the next one as well.
Indeed, it was a good day for us to fish. We ended up calling it quits for the day. With the results of the catch that we can be proud of that day, we returned not empty handed. We came back also bringing cheerfulness, joy, and a closer relationship between us as a family. There is nothing more important than the familial bond between us. Between me and my wife's side of the family. Big fish, also known as Kaloi fish, became the topic of our conversation all the way back home. But the funny thing is, none of them like the taste of Kaloi fish, except me. I am the happiest person today HAHAHA!
I'm not very good at cooking. But I'm good enough to fill my stomach. Let it be simple, the most important thing is that I am full. Kaloi fish caught earlier is then processed to be fried. I feel like eating fried fish this time.
Fried Kaloi fish. Have you ever tasted it? Simply, fry with cooking oil. After the fish is cooked and crispy, it is eaten with pepper. Short but full.
This is what I mean by simple but definitely filling. And it's not satisfying if you eat fried fish without chili. Mix chili with a few spoons of vinegar, it's complete for me. Do you feel your maltese drooling in your mouth right now? Haha that's what happened to me as I typed this story looking back at this picture! It's not fair, I want more fried Kaloi fish.
This is my son's cat. They named him Naru. Naru means long in Dusun language. They named him Naru after his long tail. Naru also got a share of fried Kaloi fish!
