I realize that some might say, due to my background and all, that my bias is getting the best of me. But truth be told, all that I'm saying is quite verifiable if you want to take a little bit of time.
There are economies in the US that depend on foreign labor. There is almost no way to slice the cake in a different way, it is what it is. In Florida, which is the state I called home for most of my adult life, it's a fact that more than 60 percent of farm workers are undocumented.
You might be tempted to say a reductive argument along the lines of: "Well, they should get their shit together and get papers" but if you do, know you are showing to know nothing about the cost and the difficulty of surfing the legal system here.
I'm sometimes blown away by the fact that some fellow Americans think that all undocumented people want to remain so. Why would this be the case? They have less rights than US citizens, and I know this all too well having worked in restaurants for more than 7 years. They pay taxes, it comes off the payroll, and none of it goes to their retirement.
If you think that kicking all these people out is the solution to anything, research what has happened in other states. You will see places in Alabama where farmers had to give away their crops, or let them rot, because there was nobody to work the fields.
Truth is that immigrants do the jobs many of us rather not do. Let's be honest, roofing is not a healthy career choice for most, and picking tomatoes in the scorching sun for ten hours a day is no trip to Cancun.
Instead of fixing the problems, Alabama created more. There is a reason why it's one of the poorest places in America after all.
I think Ron thinks this is the way to win, the way to the White House, but I would argue it's self destructive. The fight with Disney is pointless and stupid, and this whole "tough on immigration" has began to backfire already.
I know there are some DeSantis fans out there, I understand this. But he seems to be out of touch with reality in my personal opinion.
I suspect that Trump has this in the bag already. His rival is not in the republican side at all, and sadly those who are trying, just like DeSantis, are making a fool of themselves.
The difference is that DeSantis might really screw things for Florida while he tries to outTrump the Donald.
I fear there's only downside to look forward to in the near future.
