Strawberry Fields! [EN/PT-BR]

It's that time of the year again, spring is here! Now this is starting to feel like a family tradition too. The year after we moved here we found Stehly Farms, and organic family owned farm, because of their strawberry picking. We searched for organic strawberry picking at the time and we found them. They are located in Valley Center, CA. About 50 minutes driving from San Diego, where we live. There are a few strawberry picking places around here, or at least closer to where we live, but none are organic. Stehly Farms produces a lot of vegetables and fruits that are sold in local markets, and their products are just the best! And every year they do a strawberry picking day. It's usually one day only in the entire year, sometimes two days, but that's it, if you miss it then only next year. They announce the day on their social medias about a week or two before, and you have to be following them not to miss it.

They make it a very cool event for families, specially with kids. Other then the strawberry picking, they have an area for the families to hang out with food (flat breads, burgers, tacos, smoothies, ice cream, etc), they have a small stand where they sell all their fresh produce, they have an area for the kids to play with a playground, an old firefighter truck, and a small petting zoo. They also do tours in the farm where a big farm tractor pulls a cart with about 20 people, and one of the owners of the farm goes in the back explaining the areas we drive by and what they do. But the best part is the strawberry picking, as their strawberries are the best I ever had in my life. No kidding and I'm not exaggerating here, it's hard to explain but they are just the best ever. They are big, super juicy, and so sweet, that words don't make justice, the only way is going there and trying it. One time when we did the farm tour, the owner explained that they grow a type of strawberries that is not very good commercially because they get ripe and go bad quick, so there is not much time for distribution. But in the other hand this type is big, juicy and sweet.

I think the only year we missed going there since we moved here was during covid. But we went there every year other then that. When spring is here, we start checking their social media for that day, so we don't miss it and yesterday was that day!
I usually eat the strawberries right there while picking, and I think I probably ate as much as a box of strawberries in the field. We ended up taking 6 boxes home. Check out some pictures.

Ja estamos naquela época do ano novamente, a primavera chegou! Agora esse passeio está começando a parecer uma tradição familiar também. No ano seguinte à que nos mudamos para cá, descobrimos a Stehly Farms, uma pequena fazenda orgânica que pertence a mesma família a mais de 100 anos, por causa do dia de colheita de morangos, onde voce mesmo colhe os morangos para levar para casa. Na época, procuramos por uma colheita de morangos orgânicos e foi assim que encontramos eles. A fazenda esta localizada em Valley Center, CA. Fica a cerca de 50 minutos de carro de San Diego, onde moramos. Existem mais alguns locais onde voce pode colher seus próprios morangos por aqui, ou pelo menos mais perto de onde moramos, mas nenhum é orgânico. A Stehly Farms produz muitos legumes e frutas que são vendidos nos mercados locais, e seus produtos são simplesmente os melhores! E todo ano eles fazem um dia de colheita de morangos aberta ao público. Geralmente é um dia só no ano inteiro, às vezes dois dias, mas é só isso nunca foi mais do que dois dias, e se você perder, só no ano que vem. Eles anunciam o dia em suas mídias sociais cerca de uma ou duas semanas antes, e você tem que estar seguindo eles para não perder.

Eles fazem desse um evento muito legal para famílias, especialmente com crianças. Além da colheita de morangos, eles têm uma área para as famílias se divertirem com comida (pizzas ou flat breads, hambúrgueres, tacos, smoothies, sorvete etc.), têm uma pequena barraca onde vendem todos os produtos frescos (verduras e frutas), têm uma área para as crianças brincarem em um playground, tem um antigo caminhão de bombeiro e um pequeno zoológico para interagir com os animais. Eles também fazem passeios na fazenda, onde um grande trator agrícola puxa um carrinho com cerca de 20 pessoas, e um dos proprietários da fazenda vai atrás explicando as áreas pelas quais passamos e o que eles fazem. Mas a melhor parte é a colheita de morangos, pois os morangos deles são os melhores que já comi na minha vida. Sem brincadeira, e não estou exagerando, é difícil explicar, mas eles são simplesmente os melhores que jamais experimentei. Eles são grandes, super suculentos e tão doces que palavras não fazem justiça, a única maneira é ir até lá e experimentar. Certa vez, quando fizemos o tour pela fazenda, o proprietário explicou que eles cultivam um tipo de morango que não é muito bom comercialmente porque amadurece e estraga rápido, então não há muito tempo para distribuição. Mas, por outro lado, esse tipo é grande, suculento e doce.

Acho que o único ano em que não fomos lá desde que nos mudamos para cá foi durante a Covid. Mas, fora isso, fomos lá todos os anos. Quando chega a primavera, começamos a checar as mídias sociais para ver quando é o dia da colheira para não perdermos, e ontem foi esse dia!

Eu costumo comer os morangos ali mesmo, durante a colheita, e acho que provavelmente comi mais de uma caixa de morangos ali mesmo no meio do campo. Acabamos levando 6 caixas para casa. Veja algumas fotos.
