Hello, Everyone!
I'm still taking a break from Mary Windfiddle's story. Instead, today you get a post about learning that you can do much more than you think you're capable of.
Two months ago, my friend asked me if I wanted to make the cover of his book. This project of his is very special to me because I've been there while he was writing it. I have listened to his plans, I've calmed him down when he thought that a plotpoint didn't work, I've given opinions and ideas...
It was an honour to be asked to draw the cover!
However...
That ask came in a very unfortunate moment in my 2022. A moment when I was so unsure of myself that I'd stopped drawing altogether. I didn't think I was good enough, I didn't think I did things 'the right way', I kept comparing myself with my peers and teachers...
So, I wanted to decline my friend's offer. I even did decline it at some point. But he didn't give up on me, he kept asking and saying that it was going to be great...
And when I finally agreed, it was, indeed, great. I loved working on this project! I loved thinking of different compositions to go with what the book was about. I loved discussing fonts or logos in the middle of the night. I loved not quite liking the color but going with it anyway because it was my friend's favourite.
I loved it all!
Yes, there was still some struggle. Yes, there were moments when I wanted to quit, when I kept thinking that I didn't know what I was doing. Yes, there was impostor syndrome and doubt.
But, with the support of my friend and his unending enthusiasm, I did it! And I'm forever grateful for that!
