I bought these small glass containers months ago, knowing full well that they were not ideal for succulents, but wanting to experiment with them anyway. In case you were wondering, the main issue with these glass orbs is that they don't have drainage holes.
Not having holes at the bottom of a planter is a huge issue for most varieties of plants, and succulents are no exception. If I ever overwatered these, the water would stagnate at the bottom of the container, and probably cause fungus or rot to take over. Underwatering, on the other hand, would cause the plants to lose their leaves and slowly wither away.
Still, things could be worse. I could be planting them in a mason jar instead, haha. One upside to these glass orbs is that the level of soil is relatively shallow, so most of the water will be able to evaporate quickly. The open side should also allow for decent ventilation, so I'm not worried about leaf rot.
I am not certain how long these will remain healthy for, but at worst I'll just have to move them into a regular pot a few months from now. And, if you are considering buying or planting a glass succulent terrarium, I would advise against it.
