The view from my deck

I am aware of two bald eagle nests within 5 miles of my house. Both are in trees along the river bank. It is not unusual to see mature eagles flying overhead on sunny afternoons. I could sit on my deck and watch them for hours!

The neighbors lone hen spends much of her day in my yard. Out of a flock of 3, she is the only one that has survived the winter, and avoided the predators that live here in my woods. I believe she is safe from the eagles, as I don't think they would be able to fly down between the trees to grab her.

Redbud trees easily reseed themselves and this one was dug when it was a tiny sapling from a friend's woodlot several years ago, and transplanted to my back yard. It has finally grown large enough to put on a delightful show of blossoms each spring at the edge of my woods. . It gives this white breasted nuthatch a great landing spot!

I read a line in a book yesterday that said something like 'How will this society ever expect to recognize aliens, when we can't even recognize birds?'

I do love spring and spending my days out on the deck watching the birds and enjoying the flowers,
