I wish I knew what to say that could bring him some comfort. Be sure he knows that he is not alone in the pain he feels. My brother bought some new toys for his beloved parrot and when he came home from work found that the bird had gotten tangled and hung himself. He lived with awful guilt for years. I know hearing another tale of woe is not what you need right now. But he is not alone.
