Gooooood day Homeedders! hope you have all been safe and well we're cooped up indoors as everyone in my family has tested positive for COVID19. It has been an odd experience because my mother in-law has been hit pretty hard and so has my wife who has been drained of energy and experiencing muscle pains.
For the kids, the oddest thing is I would not have known they had COVID if I didn't test them because they had shown no signs or symptoms. They have been full of energy so I think there must be a different reaction for some, they haven't slept and as I write this they are both up still watching T.V. (It is 12:19am/midnight) My wife has been out cold. They also only tested positive 2 days in a row out of 6 days so either it doesn't last long in kids or they had it a lot longer than we knew.
Me? well. It skipped me I haven't tested positive and we haven't socially distanced as it is impossible with two kids under 5 and I wasn't prepared to put them through that. I thought I may have been delayed in getting it but we are fast approaching day 7 and I am still negative.
So, given we are all healthy, no time off school here and it is time to get back to learning!
I have enrolled into Uni to upskill on a few projects I am working on and where I had been trying to teach myself I have caved and decided just to go back to University and have someone teach me and provide all the resources too.
In order to enrol I had to undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and I am not sure if this is in relation to you getting accepted or if it is just so they know where you sit and what kind of supports you need.
So I took the opportunity to do some of it with little miss so she could experience the process and maybe learn a few things a long the way.
Mind you little miss didn't do it I say through it and undertook the test but she sat with me and I explained what we were doing and talked her through some of the answers a long the way.
She did know some things as it did start off at a low level and it was fun to do with her. For the English test I got Level 5 which is what most of us would get who are born and raised in Australia. I was a little surprised as the first time I undertook this test many years ago I think I was a 3. So I have drastically improved.
Then we were onto the maths section and oh wow did I struggle here! it started off quite simple with addition and subtraction which was really fun to do with little miss and she was quite excited.
I hope I wasn't timed throughout the event as I did take long pauses while I counted a long with little miss. Once we came up with the answer I also allowed little miss to pop in the answer with the keyboard to get her involved in the process.
It was a fun activity and I think she has really enjoyed it because she has asked me to do another one! I think I will be on the hunt for kids aged math games on the computer and let little miss have a play while learning.
How did we go at maths? well, not all that good and it was a learning experience for me as I hate algebra and Pythagoras theorem and let's be honest we have calculators these days and all sorts of programs that can add it up for us. For many of those questions I didn't even try I just flat out pressed 0 :(
I did learn a few things about myself though as I am ok at maths as I am always building something, filling something, cementing something and I have developed my own ways of calculating answers.
As some of the questions were around which equation is right I couldn't answer the right one but I knew how to get the answer a different way. Goes to show as we age we come up with different ways to do things that still lead to the right answers.
So anyway, that was my maths class with little miss and my enrolment into university. Fingers crossed I get to start and I will be finished in no time!
