Happy Easter Hive!
Easter is one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar and commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ and many nations around the world celebrate the event with a long weekend spent with family and loved ones. I was raised with my Nonni as a Roman Catholic and each year we would attend palm Wednesday mass and midnight mass for Easter Sunday.
Lent
Good Friday is also lent where we do not eat red meat and often opt for Fish and Chips, at times I make my own but I at times find working with fish a smelly endeavor that leaves your hands and house smelling bad. I need to install an outdoors kitchenette in the garage to prevent smalling my house out.
This year we just opted for a local Fish and Chip shop and to my surprise they had hand cut potato chips a rare find these days with many retailers opting for pre cut chips which just aren't the same as when we were younger. We will be visiting this store more often in the future now we know they are done in the traditional way.
Easter Egg Hunt
Unlike years when I was younger where my Nonni would decorate real hard boiled eggs which would be placed in sweet breads, the easter egg has rapidly changed in Australia and has become a chocolate treat.
Eggs represent new life much like Jesus's resurrection on Easter Sunday which is why Easter Eggs have become popular in households across the world.
Usually Easter is quite warm still but this year has seen weather being a lot colder and even some rain so we held our annual easter hunt in doors. on Saturday night we covered in doors with eggs hidden amongst toys and different locations in the house.
Once the kids awoke they knew exactly what to expect and were off chasing the easter bunnies trail to see where it had left the eggs around the house. Amazingly Lil bloke who is 2 years old turned into spider man leaping and flying around the house with no fear of heights with his eyes firmly set on getting the most chocolate eggs!
Little Miss made a bee line for the backdoor as in previous years we had eggs outdoors but we had to inform her that the easter bunny wasn't able to leave eggs outside due to the rain and wet weather as the eggs would have ruined.
This bought little bloke the extra time to locate a few more hidden eggs around the house and load up his basket. Little miss all though decided to take some from his basket while he wasn't looking because she felt it "wasn't fair" that he had more than her because she is bigger.
They were absolutely ecstatic with their find and although it looks like a lot of chocolate and it is, we will be putting a lot of it back in the cupboard to be eaten slowly over the next few months with a lot of mum and dad's help!
Usually we have family over but a lot of people are sick this year with chicken pox and a spicey cough so we had to go it alone :(
Next year we will party harder!
