Someone I know used to tell me that exercise is medicine. It's something our body needs irrespective of age. No matter how old you are, you're not exempted from carrying out exercise.
There are numerous advantages to exercise. Exercise helps you remain agile. Exercise keeps your organs, joints and muscles in perfect health. The body is structured in a way that if you don't use any part as often as it is supposed to be, problems begin to develop.
Exercise helps us stay strong. It helps our flexibility. Exercise prevents us from accumulating too much fat and gaining unhealthy weight. When you exercise, you burn those fat and excess calories. It's obvious that exercise is just so beneficial. I doubt there's any disadvantage to exercising.
Let me focus on the elderly. Exercise isn't excluded for their category. Exercise helps them more, in fact. The key here is moderate exercise.
When people get old, muscles begin to shrink, joints are no longer the way they use to be, organs are no longer as healthy as before. It takes exercise to limit these deteriorations over time. Most people tend to become sedentary as they get older, and I understand that. But the sad thing is the more sedentary you become as an older person, the more your body gets weaker and your agility fades even more.
I am someone who loves exercise. I try to exercise everyday. Sometimes I do heavy exercises, sometimes I do light exercises. The thing about exercise is that it usually makes your body ache, especially when you're new to it. Some people are scared of that ache that comes with it, so they choose to stay away from exercise. But then, there's no gain without pain.
Exercise is therapeutic for me. When you have a lot on your mind, a good exercise can help you clear it. Exercise makes me feel good and I'm sure that's the same situation for a whole lot of persons.
Exercise prevents a lot of illnesses. All you need to do is exercise today and you'll be better for it. Age doesn't matter. The proper exercise does.
