The rain pasted itself against the window like a leper's skin on the inside of a sock and I heaved a great big breath in and then out as a sigh.
Fucking hell, this bloody Lockdown.
I mumbled half to myself and half to the invisible rats which chittered in the eaves of the attic.
Pulling open one of the many hatch-like doors set in the sides of the attic room I shone a super bright torch up the dark and narrow passageway beyond.
It was tempting to grab a bag of sandwiches and go exploring along that dark and crooked path. See what lay up the other end.
Would it be 40 virgins and a bag of sheep?
Who knew.
I slammed the door shut.
Nearby, one of my many guitars glinted in the grey light.
Fucking yes! That would do it. I picked that wooden beehotch up and started strumming. Time slipped away as I lost myself to the blues.
My fingers started to protest. They hadn't seen this much action since I had had that brief fling with Juliana from Barcelona.
I smiled at the thought of pronouncing her name, to do it properly pretty much involved hawking up a greeny bit of phlegm and finishing off with a cough.
Good times.
My weights lay nearby.
I eyed them up casually. I knew they wouldn't bite but one can never be too careful.
Cautiously I approached them and picked one up. It was a good weight. A sturdy one. I raised it up once or twice.
Oh yeah, feel the BURN!
A few more weeks of this and no one will be kicking sand in my face on the beach this summer.
Not least because they would have a hard job doing it from 2 metres away.
Bloody Coronavirus.
After a bit more jiggery-pokery with the weights, I made my way to the stairs and headed down to the lounge.
I entered and the Good Lady looked up.
Heya darling, that you down for your break? How is work anyway? Your coffee is on the table.
She smiled at her big Daddy Caveman, working from home to bring in the meat.
I let out a humphing great puff and went over to pick up my coffee.
Oh, you know work, busy busy. Bloody stressful.
I raised my coffee cup in salute.
Still, I am taking one for the team, baby. Don't you worry about that.
