[En/Esp] SketchBook Chapter 9: Creatures Of the Night

Hello, dear aliens!
A new chapter of this art book has been born, this time they emerged from the depths of my imagination, two creatures of the night that i don't know exactly what they are or where they come from...

Hola, queridos aliens!
Ha nacido un nuevo capítulo de este libro de arte, esta vez emergieron de las profundidades de mi imaginación, dos criaturas de la noche que no sé exactamente qué son ni de dónde provienen...

Like every night, i sat down in front of my laptop, looked for a concert on Youtube... i admit that i'm addicted to playing one of my favorite bands from my teenage years: A Perfect Circle as background music for my creative nights, and then everything flows better. I take out my pencil and start going over those imaginary lines that are appearing on these little pages. And so these two strange creatures of the night were born.

Como cada noche, me senté frente a mi laptop, busqué algún concierto en Youtube... Admito que estoy adicta a poner de fondo musical para mis noches creativas a una de mis bandas favoritas de la adolescencia: A Perfect Circle y entonces todo fluye mejor. Saco mi lápiz y comienzo a repasar esas líneas imaginarias que van apareciendo en estas pequeñas páginas. Y así nacieron estas dos extrañas criaturas de la noche.

Unlike other drawings that are a little difficult for me to decide how i want the coloring to be or if i want to outline or not, these creatures were the exception. I feel that they already came with a manual from their own existential plane, so i started to outline them without much ado or hesitation.

A diferencia de otros dibujos que me resultan un poco difícil a la hora de decidirme por cómo quiero que sea el coloreado o si quiero o no delinear, estas criaturas fueron la excepción. Siento que ya venian con un manual desde su propio plano existencial, así que comencé a delinearlo sin mucho rollo ni dudas.

This drawing was extremely fluid and spontaneous, there wasn't much to decide but since i already knew what these creatures filled with black ink would look like, i let myself be tempted by the deep red so i used an alcohol marker for the background to highlight the dark and mysterious figure of these two beings.

Este dibujo fue extremadamente fluido y espontáneo, no había mucho para decidir pero como ya sabía cómo serían estas criaturas llenas de tinta negra, me dejé llevar por la tentación del rojo profundo así que usé un marcador de alcohol para el fondo y así destacar la figura oscura y misteriosa de estos dos seres.

One of the reasons why i found it much easier and faster to draw these creatures is because of all those repetitive strokes and patterns that are addictive for me, i find them relaxing, perhaps because to draw them well and especially in such a small space you have to apply the breathing and concentration techniques of yoga and meditation to prevent the hand from making sudden movements and ruin the whole drawing. So what seems to be just a drawing becomes a meditation session where thoughts turn into ink.

Una de las razones por las que me resultó mucho más fácil y rápido dibujar estas criaturas es por todos esos trazos y entramados repetitivos que son adictivos para mí, me resultan relajantes, tal vez porque para poderlos dibujar bien y sobretodo en un espacio tan reducido hay que aplicar las técnicas de respiración y concentración de yoga y meditación para evitar que la mano no haga movimientos bruscos y arruine todo el dibujo. Así que lo que parece ser sólo un dibujo se convierte en una sesión de meditación donde los pensamientos se convierten en tinta.

For the finishing touches i used two-tone gray alcohol markers, a cool gray for the clouds dividing the creatures and a warm gray for their faces. I didn't want to ruin it with any other colors.

Para los últimos toques usé marcadores de alcohol de dos tonos grises, un gris frío para las nubes que dividen a las criaturas y un gris cálido para sus rostros. No quise arruinarlo con ningún otro color.

The simple is the most complex, now this is my favorite. Dark and mysterious, without so much fuss and color. I couldn't tell you what they are, but I've always loved monsters, cyclops and other creatures... There goes this chapter number 9.

Lo simple es lo más complejo, ahora este es mi favorito. Oscuro y misterioso, sin tanto rollo ni color. No sabría decirte qué son, pero siempre amé los monstruos, los cíclopes y demás criaturas... Por ahi va este capítulo número 9.
