The Gauntlet is a top view arcade gamer in the likes of Diablo. I bought it because it was under deals in the PSN STORE for $5.
It is a classic on the playstation consoles.
You collect gold; smash enemies and run from demons that you cannot kill. Sadly that is really all it is. Its set up like an arcade game; since its origins are from the arcade.
But it shows you pretty much everything in the first few levels and then it becomes very redundant; infact I thought I was playing the same level over and over sometimes. Every few levels it introduces one new enemy.
Each character has a different weapon that is upgradable and one special move.
What it really needs is a story line. You are going though a gauntlet and a storyline would break up the monotony. I never played the original playstation or PS2 version so for me it instantly brought me back to the arcade days. I used to love playing the arcade classic. But after 2-3 levels I started to get really bored. It isn't very challenging and its just not that fun. I am going to finish it before i delete it but i can see that I have about 15 more levels to go and I am sighing and considering just giving up. I guess I am comparing it too much to Diablo; which was great. This one falls short in comparison.
C+ rating. Fun for 2 or 3 levels and then looses its novelty. Its not bad for $5 if the special is still going but I wouldn't pay full price.
