Having access to clean drinking water is an essential human right that everyone, regardless of income level or location, should have. However, access to clean drinking water remains a difficulty in many areas of the world, especially in rural populations in poor nations. Access to water and sanitation is a big concern in Ghana, especially in rural regions.
Ghana has a population of around 31 million people and is located in West Africa. Around 70% of the inhabitants live in rural regions, where access to clean drinking water is very difficult. For their daily water requirements, most rural populations in Ghana depend on natural water bodies like rivers, streams, and ponds. However, these water sources are often polluted, resulting in infectious ailments and infections that harm the health of those who depend on them.
Risky drinking water is a major issue in Ghanaian communities, especially in the villages. Water supplies are few in these locations, and the few that are accessible are often contaminated by human and animal waste. Chemicals from fertilizers and pesticides used in agriculture also affect the water. These toxins endanger the health of those who depend on them for their daily water supply.
The availability of clean water has a huge influence on the health and well-being of individuals living in Ghana's rural villages. In these places, waterborne illnesses such as cholera, typhoid fever, and dysentery are frequent. These illnesses kill a considerable number of people each year, main children under the age of five. Furthermore, a shortage of clean drinking water leads to inadequate sanitation practices, which exacerbates disease transmission.
Over the years, the Ghanaian administration has made attempts to increase rural access to clean drinking water. The government has initiated a number of projects aimed at enhancing rural sanitation and water distribution. These attempts, however, have been impeded by a lack of financing and resources. As a consequence, many rural populations continue to lack access to clean drinking water, and the condition is critical.
To solve the issue of contaminated drinking water in Ghanaian communities, the hive ecosystem has made a significant attempt in putting up 5 major boreholes to supply water to identified villages. Without the support of any external funding, hive has improved the lives of people in these selected villages in Ghana by serving them with clean water. I am always excited to make this known to the world.
