Between the pages of an old book we almost always find stories. Some were written as joyful reminders of some teenager in love; others, to perpetuate where they left off a reading that was never taken up again.

What about Ex Libris? The beautiful stamps of publishers of the past, which I consider as works of art within the work of the book itself; the personal stamps of authors, to avoid pirated editions of their works. But we also find the signatures of zealous owners, leaving proof of the undisputed possession of their printed treasure.

There are, of course, the dedications. Some are like an irrefutable proof of our presence at the presentation of the book of a fortunate author, who was able to materialize his dream of seeing his creation in print.
Others, on the other hand, are proof of friendship, love, or for the good performance of a work far removed from the letters, but the book, with its dedication, is the perfect gift to fulfill the encouragement to the person honored.

But there are annotations that, when we find them by pure chance among the pages of an old book, awaken in us a great interest in knowing about the person who wrote them, the circumstances that gave rise to them. I can affirm that they are motivating stories for the creation of other narratives.

So it happens, my friends, when we leaf through the old pages of a printed book, one of the most formidable creations of the human being that will be left in the memory to be replaced by these technologies used by us to write and disseminate our works; and to treasure, without space problems, hundreds of books that we can carry in our pockets.

Anyway, I keep my collection of printed books, some of them are already combing many gray hairs, and from one of them I have taken these photos shared with you today with great pleasure.

It is a book that belonged to my father, a manual of chemical analysis by the Spanish publisher Gallach. It synthesizes everything I have expressed above.

Entre las hojas de un viejo libro casi siempre hallamos historias. Unas fueron escritas como recordatorios alegres de alguna adolescente enamorada; otras, para perpetuar en donde dejaron una lectura que nunca más se retomó.

¿Y los Ex Libris? Los hermosos sellos de editores del pasado a los cuales considero como obras de arte dentro de la propia obra del libro; los sellos personales de autores, para evitar las ediciones piratas realizadas a sus obras. Pero también encontramos las firmas de dueños celosos dejando constancia de la indiscutible posesión de su tesoro impreso.

Están, por supuesto, las dedicatorias. Unas son como una constancia irrebatible de nuestra presencia en la presentación del libro de un autor afortunado, que pudo materializar su sueño de ver impresa su creación.
Otras, en cambio, son constancias de la amistad, el amor, o por el buen desempeño de una labor bastante alejada de las letras, pero el libro, con su dedicatoria, es el regalo perfecto para cumplir con el estímulo hacia la persona homenajeada.

Pero hay anotaciones que, cuando las hayamos por pura casualidad entre las páginas de un viejo libro, nos despiertan un gran interés por conocer acerca de la persona que la dejó escrita, las circunstancias que le dieron lugar. Puedo afirmar que son historias motivadoras para la creación de otras narraciones.

Así ocurre, amigos míos, cuando hojeamos las añejas páginas de un libro impreso, una de las creaciones más formidables del ser humano que irá quedando en el recuerdo al ser sustituido por estas tecnologías usadas por nosotros para escribir y difundir nuestras obras; y para atesorar, sin problemas de espacio, cientos de libros que podemos llevar en el bolsillo.

De cualquier forma, me quedo con mi colección de libros impresos, parte de ellos ya peinan muchas canas, y de uno de ellos he tomado estas fotos compartidas hoy con ustedes con gran placer.

Se trata de un libro que pertenecía a mi padre, un manual de análisis químico del editor español Gallach. En él se sintetiza todo lo que les he expresado anteriormente.

Espero que disfruten de estas imágenes y les hagan despertar gratos recuerdos de sus libros preferidos.
