When the Kids Are Sick: Motherhood, Chores, and a Little Side Hustle
Having a sick family member can make you want to stop everything and focus only on them. But you learn to multitask... It may not be easy to do but that's life. We need to keep going.
Aiden was sick for two days, and just when I thought things were getting better, now it’s Ryzen who has a fever. It can be a little difficult to do other things when both kids need your attention.
Sometimes, you just learn to do things little by little whenever you get the chance. And that's what I did.
While Aiden was sick, my dad asked me if I wanted to sell some rambutan. The rambutan came from their own trees, just like the lanzones I sold before. My dad wanted to sell it for ₱40 per kilo, and I decided to add ₱20, so I could sell it for ₱60 per kilo. It was actually quite easy for me to find buyers because I have lots of friends online.
I just sent some messages and posted about the rambutan, and thankfully, people were interested. I managed to sell almost 17 kilos. After everything, I earned around ₱280 from selling it. You might think it wasn't a lot, but for me, it is.
Why? Because I didn't have to buy the rambutan, prepare it, or spend money to produce it. My dad did all the preparation. I simply helped sell it and deliver it.
That's one thing I really like about this kind of side hustle. You can earn something in a day. Of course, you need to know how to reach more people and find buyers.
But having friends and contacts online really helps. Just like the lanzones before, this small opportunity gave me a little extra money. And honestly, I'll take it. Haha.
Yesterday, when Ryzen was sleeping, I tried to use those moments to do something else. I went outside to deliver some rambutan to our neighbor. Thankfully, they live nearby, so I didn't have to go far.
The weather was very sunny and hot that day, but I told myself, It's just a few steps away. And just like that, delivery was done.
When I came back, Ryzen was already awake. And it was time for his medicine, so I gave it to him.
Medicine nowadays can really make you think twice about your budget. We had some free medicine from the clinic, thank goodness, but since Aiden got sick first, we ran out of it.
So we asked my mother-in-law to buy another one for Ryzen. It cost ₱110. After Ryzen took his medicine, he eventually became more active. And suddenly, he didn't look like a sick child anymore. 😆
Then he asked for some snacks. So I gave him some Yum-Yum. Of course, Aiden had to have some too.
Because if you give one child a snack and ignore the other one, you already know what happens next. Loud crying. 🥹
So both of them got some.
And just like that, their moods changed.
Aside from selling rambutan and taking care of the kids, I also had laundry waiting for me.
The clothes I washed the previous day were ready to be hung.
So I went upstairs and started hanging the clothes.
The weather was really hot that day, so I wanted to finish quickly.
But the view distracted me. Sometimes, you get so caught up in doing things that you don't even realize it.
But that day, it was beautiful. 🥹 So even though I was sweating because of the heat, I took a few seconds to admire the view. Then, finished hanging the clothes as quickly as I could and went back downstairs. 😊
❤️ Thank you for taking the time to read my little story! I hope you enjoyed it. 🥰 Until next time! 👋
