Hi, dear pets owners! I would really like to see your thoughts with regards to a situation I have with my cat Swallow.
I have Swallow for 1 year and almost a half. She has always been quite a rebel wild cat. She likes to cuddle when you have a treat for her as much as she would transform everything into a mess if you don't do as she pleases.
Well, a few days ago she went to my neighbor and stayed a lot of times there, only coming for short moments back home in 3 days. My neighbor is an old lady who knows me since I was a kid and who is in the care of her son and a woman employed for that.
So, I approached the old lady and that woman when I've seen Swallow is interested in their place and they told me that Swallow use to stay at their place...and I thought this would be only for some visits. I was happy to know she is ok and thought everything will turn back to normal.
Well...one day as I kept looking for the cat I realised that she is behind their tiny window for cats that they have. I approached the window and let her out because the window wasn't opened. [That tiny window makes stray cats come and go there...]. After a short time, I have seen the woman that takes care of the old lady entering the building.
She was saying me to leave the cat to stay with them when she saw I wanted to take her home, because it is an alleviation for the old lady and that she bought meat for the cat. I told her that the cat can come to visit the old lady for a bit but that the cat has its home and it is not ok to stay in their house for so long.
Well...after taking the cat home...she kept going to the old lady when I let it out. I knocked on their door although I didn't like it and asked about the cat. Her son told me he is not sure if the cat is there...that he is not responsible about it...and I asked him kindly to let the cat out and no longer receive it and told him that the cat had its own meal [knowing they might give her fresh meat]. Considering that he won't really do that after the talk, I went with a friend calling the cat outside...until he called me and put the cat in my arms and I took her back home.
When letting her out again I think she went again to the neighbor...I knocked in his window...the son answered me saying he can't be always looking after the cat...if she enters, she enters by herself...and these kinds of things.
My thoughts are that the cat keeps going there because they gave her food I don't nurture my cat with and she might feel comfortable there without having to share her space with my other two cats and being conditioning when to go out - because the neighbor has that tiny window which I don't have. On the other hand, Swallow is a cat that likes to go out and while she was at their place I didn't see her going out. Furthermore, their cat died because she was old a few months again and they might have found a replacement in Swallow.
So, not sure what to do anymore...the cat doesn't listen to me...they don't really listen to me...I also feel bad about the old lady...and I want my cat to be free to do what she likes...but I am sure they couldn't take care of her as I would do...not to say we miss her.
I also thought to let Swallow unravel her rebel character and maybe they would consider more not letting her in their house.
What do you think about it? Have you ever been in such a situation? I would appreciate your insights.
Thank You!
Maylena
