Gracias.
At what point do lies originate in us? Undoubtedly all of us, at some point in our lives have lied. But why?
According to the RAE (Real Academia Española): Lie. Is to say or manifest the opposite of what one knows, believes or thinks.
Before I begin, I want to clarify the following: I do not intend to make anyone uncomfortable, hurt, antagonize, compare or judge anyone. I simply want to touch on this subject from the everyday. I ask you not to filter anything I mention here through the darkness. Thank you.
We lie for many reasons: to avoid uncomfortable situations, to avoid hurting other people, to avoid taking responsibility, to get something, to be accepted. If I miss any other reason, mention it in the comments.
Describamos brevemente cada una de ellas:
Let us briefly describe each one of them:
To avoid uncomfortable situations:You are visiting a friend's house and out of nowhere an argument breaks out between him and a family member; and that argument escalates. You face a disjunction: you tell your friend that you are leaving because you don't want to be a spectator of such an embarrassing moment or, you lie, inventing any excuse to get out of there as soon as possible.
To avoid hurting other people:In my opinion, I think these lies are the most harmful. This usually happens when we care too much about the other person. We don't want to hurt them, or make them feel offended, or demoralized. But if we care so much about them, then why do we lie to them? By this I don't mean that we are going to go through life shouting to the four winds: you're fat!, you didn't get that job because you're too lazy! We just need to be tactful when speaking, I think it would be more appreciated by them to hear the truth and more, if it comes from someone who loves them ❤.
To avoid taking responsibility:Here I consider that excuses play a very important role. I could say that they can also be defined as lies: I don't have time, I'll start on Monday, today I'll start studying, etc.
To get something:I'm going to tell my parents that I'm going to study at a friend's house, when I'm really going to party.
To be accepted:We lie in order to be part of groups, communities. To be accepted in a relationship, in a job, among friends and even with our own family.
And it seems that we must necessarily lie. That it is something inherent to us. That we are driven to it. But what happens when we are caught lying, or we discover that we have been lied to? In the first case, the first reaction is to be offended, right? and we try to defend our lie to the end. In the second, we are the ones who feel defrauded.
Now then; I ask you this question: is it good to lie? I have lied, I have done it to avoid uncomfortable situations, I have done it to avoid hurting other people, I have even done it to avoid hurting myself. What have I achieved with that? Nothing good of course. We can't go through life deceiving and deceiving ourselves. We must be as "transparent " as possible. And as I mentioned at the beginning, it is not about acting with impunity because... -I am going to give you my humble opinion-; or -it will sound cruel and all-... People do not deserve to be talked to like that either, because we know that behind those phrases, what comes is a string of words full of discouragement and offenses because... -Christ died for the truth-.
Rather, I am referring to a truth throughadvice, motivational phrases, moralejas. One day we will be the ones who give them, and another, the ones who receive them.
Dicen dos populares refranes. Y cito:
Two popular refranes say. And I quote:
Lies have short legs and,
Between heaven and earth, there is nothing hidden.
Let us remember, what is at stake is trust, and once trust is lost, there is no going back.
