- Before drawing (the object itself), make sure that your object is correctly located on the paper (or what you are drawing on). This, it would seem, is logical, but for beginners such a mistake is very common. A person is so enthusiastic about the idea that he tries to transfer his image as quickly as possible to paper, do not rush, so you will save a lot of time and energy. All measurements are taken without using third-party tools: rulers, compasses and other. It is important to train your eye to such an extent that afterwards nothing is measured at all. But it will be later.
2.I have already written about the importance of the sketch (or sketch, as you wish), but I will repeat it again. Before you start painting or toning, make sure that your basic design is correct, that all proportions are met, your sketch should look convincing! Small inaccuracies are not terrible, they can be corrected along the way, but this concerns only minor errors!
3.To already talk about the rules, it would be nice to observe them. I start with a tone, and, as you can see from the upper left corner, this is to minimize friction about the finished drawing, if, say, you started sketching the base at once, in this case the base is the lips and the mouth itself. Of course, you can use a lining in the form of a sheet of paper (I have this paper for the printer format A4), but still, the drawing will be much cleaner if you do not touch it at all.
4.Guby (especially if you draw them close-up) - this is a rather embossed object with its cracks, hollows and something like a cracked surface, respectively, all these nuances must be taken into account. But for starters, it will be enough to put a light tone over the paper, this will be the basis, which will later be clarified with the help of a nag, and in certain places will be shaded with more dense pressure, that is, it will be much darker.
5.For those who draw only in CG, it may seem funny, then how traditional pencils hold the pencil, I mean the position when the fingers hold a pencil at the edge. Strange as it may seem, there is an explanation. It is impossible (practically) to create a soft light tone if you hold a pencil just like you hold the pen for writing. Otherwise, the pencil is rigidly fixed, the movements have a smaller amplitude of motion, only these two moments create certain inconveniences in creating the tone. But if you fix the pencil with your fingers on the very edge, you have additional advantages, namely:
(photo with a pencil position, as you understand, using the example of an old work)
a.The amplitude of the movement increases, which means that the stroke will be more even, it will also be even and due to the fact that the whole brush, not just the fingers, starts moving.
b.Also we change the position of the pencil, now we draw the widest surface, and not the tip as if holding the handle.
c. And last important remark, pressing becomes as soft as possible.
You can find more benefits, but already these three are enough to understand the importance of a certain fixation of the pencil in the hand for certain cases in drawing.
6.About the stroke. After you have tone, proceed to drawing. Here an important point, lead a stroke from the dark area of the lip, from where the lip (upper) comes in contact with the teeth (visually, the border of the upper lip and teeth). And the stroke must go in one direction - press the pencil in the darkest area and lead to the light, while the pressure should decrease. Then tear off the pencil from the paper and start the movement anew, do not reverse the stroke, the stroke must go one way, otherwise there will be porridge.
7.When you have the main strokes ready, namely the shadow is clearly shown, the next stage of the work will be small details. As I said earlier, the lips have an extremely prominent surface, especially in this case, the upper lip and the lower part of the lower lip. These microcracks are also drawn with light pencil movements in the position "beyond the edge". At this stage, we just designate the cracks.
8.For more detailed details, we take a pencil with a usual grip, like a pen for writing, but at the same time pressure should be controlled, do not press the pencil to blackness, where it is not needed. Do not forget about a piece of paper at hand, which does not allow the skin to touch the work surface. After completing the work with a pencil, take a glance, this will help you to a nag or eraser (I recommend only in certain cases). If there are no nags, then use an eraser with a wide surface for the main highlight, which spreads across the entire surface of the lip, and sharp (cut a small piece from the main piece) to work out the glare in the microcracks.
9.Pro "wrong" stroke. I mean a stroke that does not complete its movement from point A to point B, but goes back. Such a stroke can be useful in the work, provided that it will be applied over the main stroke in neat, light movements. This will create a soft transition effect, for example from a shadow to a lighter surface, that is, such a stroke can smooth out the sharpness, if present.
10.Next, take care of the teeth. Here everything is much easier and more understandable, I will mention only a couple of points. The surface on the teeth is more even and clear, but not perfectly even, so I recommend applying a vertical stroke from the top of the tooth to the bottom, the pencil can be held with a normal grip, but the movements must be controlled again. In the lower part of the tooth (if we are talking about the upper teeth) there are small chips and irregularities that create shadows and glare. The main highlights, the most noticeable, can immediately be left untouched, that is, do not shade the whole tooth (toning it)
11.Oral cavity. Nothing complicated, just here there are the darkest areas with which you also need to work wisely. Apply a soft touch to the surface of the tongue in all directions, that is, vertically, horizontally and inclined strokes, with soft movements, this will help create a dense and at the same time soft fill of the object. By the way the same strokes you can work out and lips (in the initial stage, when we tint). After, we study the darkest areas, try to make the softest transition from a dark tone to a light one. We conclude this area with the elaboration of the language, the surface of which is dotted with slightly darker spots of various sizes.
The lower part of the lip, like teeth, almost does not differ from the upper ones, in terms of technique, of course. All the same ways of applying the tone, all the same pencil positions.
PS. The only thing I wanted to add is that you do not need to hurry, especially if you are at the beginning level, just do not give up if something does not work out today. Give yourself a chance to return tomorrow and create a quality, compelling work that you can paint at this stage of your development.
