Sharpening a #sketching pencil is a small but important part of the drawing #process . Unlike regular pencils, sketching pencils often require a longer, sharper tip to create a variety of lines, textures, and details.
I prefer to use a pencil sharpener or a special knife to sharpen my pencil rather than a regular #pencil sharpener because it gives me more control over the shape and length of the pencil tip. First, I carefully file away the wood around the pencil lead so as not to damage the graphite tip. Then, I use sandpaper to shape the pencil tip to the desired shape.
A long tip is great for creating varied lines, shading with the side of the lead, and covering large areas; while a finer tip allows for finer lines and finer details.
The shape of a pencil tip can affect the way we draw, the quality of our lines, and even the type of visual expression we want. For this reason, it is better to take the time to prepare your drawing tools and sharpen the tip of your pencil according to your technique and purpose. In my opinion, #drawing begins before the pencil touches the paper.
