Two years ago the first promo cards of the Essential Orbs series was out for players to have. An orb cost about 2500 DEC and only DEC was acceptable to purchase. The orbs were also given out in reward chests at a drop of around 1%. I personally never bought an orb with DEC but earned some in reward chests. With how packs prices have appreciated I regret not buy any orbs and not holding on to the ones I had won.
The goal of this post is to identify why Promo cards are now good to play and own if possible. Although I will mostly focus on the common cards within the Essential Orb series, which contains 12 different cards, it is worth nothing the rest of the promo cards, a total of 24 promo cards, have the same benefits as those of the orbs series.
DEC Bonus With Promos
When we hear % DEC bonus we often think of Alpha and Gold Foils. However the Promo series also has a bonus. Promo series has a 10% DEC bonus for each card used in battle and player wins. This is the same as an Alpha card. With that in mind players can actually stake gold foil promos that each is worth 20% DEC bonus.
The mere fact that promo cards have the same DEC bonus as Alpha should give you the motivation to try to own or play as many promo cards as possible. It is worth mentioning promo cards were printed in very limited quantities even though they came almost a year after the alpha series.
Over at peakmonsters.com you can see that multiple gold foil promo commons are renting for less than 20 DEC a day. At a player's level of gold league and an ECR rate above 80% would yield an additional 5 DEC per win. Do not qoute me on this as it still depends on other variables such as opponent you are facing and how many DEC remaining in the daily pool.
If the gold foil promo commons price points appears out of reach need not look too far at the regular versions. Those run as low as rental prices allow, 0.1 DEC per a day. Although regular versions will start off at level 1 it is still useful in matches and maybe shop around to find a higher level promo with low rental rate.
Essential Orbs - Commons
There are four commons in the orbs series but one that stood out to become what I think a staple is Armorsmith. Although in today's game play the ability Repair is not as well used, back when Armorsmith was one of the first cards to have Repair it become a dreadful combo with Tyrus Paladium.
The combo made it often difficult to knock out monsters as Paladium provides the monster with toughness while Armorsmith will repair it after each turn. To make it even better Armorsmith at level 3 had its own melee attack. The infinite cycle of toughness was born with Tyrus combined with Armorsmith.
Another promo common that maybe overlooked often is the neutral Enchanted Defender. At level 5 it has thorn which for specific rule sets and monsters with melee and range dreadful to face. Enchanted Defender is basically a toughness monster and if place with Armorsmith can be a very good defender against melee and range.
Conclusions
I just went over two promo cards but it is worth mentioning currently in market there are almost 10 cards that rent is less than 10 DEC a day. There is even one Epic and one summoner in that group under 10 DEC a day. Prices can rise or fall from here but it is worth checking out if you play Splinterlands.
The benefits of using Alpha is also the same when you use Promo but not many are noticing this benefit. Look into summoner Delwyn Dragonscale, note not a orb card but apart of the promo series, and other cards to get other nice combos to use in Splinterlands.
