A card that can heal its own health has plenty of advantages. First it can extend its life in battle therefore has the potential of extending the team's chances of winning. The objective of a battle is to outlast your opponent with monsters still alive. In today's post we look at all the cards that have heal and which ones in particular stand out above the rest with the same ability.

Heal in Splinterland?

image.png

The ability when performed will heal 1/3 of the monster's health round up to the nearest digit. Imagine a monster that comes out with a health of 12 and does heal, that is 4 health recovery per turn.

Example Kralus at level 2 with heal has a health of 12.

Cards with Heal

image.png

There are currently 22 cards with the ability heal at different levels, and 2 of them can only be used in brawls. That makes 20 actual rank battle playable monsters with heal. Based on the quantity of monsters that has heal one may think this is a common ability to have, however it is exact opposite.

In Fire and Death splinters it is only Cerberus and Haunted Spirit respectively that has heal ability. That means alpha/beta only 1 card per those two splinters that offers the use of heal.

image.png

For both Water and Life splinters it is only 2 cards that offers heal ability. In water it is Sea Monster and Water Elemental.

image.png

While Life it is Scared Unicorn and Kralus.

image.png

The remainder Earth, Dragon, and Neutral splinter each has three monsters with heal ability. To reiterate 4 out of 7 splinters basically have a total of 6 monsters with heal ability that can be used in rank battles. Not as common as the numbers look after all?

Tankers are Self Healers

Often in battle there are specific tanker monsters players use. (Tanker is defined as the first monster of the formation.) Sometimes the tanker is chosen because it can heal itself. Best example is Death's Haunted Spirit. A monster by default that has heal ability but adds to it having magic reflect at level 4 and void at level 7. The card is a solid tanker card for the death splinter.

Similarly Scared Unicorn and Kralus in the Life splinter are solid choices for tank monsters.

At max level both Unicorn and Kralus have double digit health and multiple abilities that can protect itself and or evade certain attacks. This makes them both very good use for positioning at the front of the formation when battles allow high mana count.

Other noticed tank position monsters with heal would be Flesh Golem, Gelatinous Cube and Hydra. Cube will be easier to obtain and in order to have heal it needs to be at level 6 which requires 52 bcx.

Rearguards are Self Healers

In similar fashion as to some monster with heal are good to be position at the front of the formation there are also monsters good with heal when placed at the rear of the formation.

image.png

Earth Elemental, Water Elemental and Cornealus are best at the rear since they have range attack with heal. These monsters will also be good at fending off sneak ability monsters. Then there is the lengendary Kron the Undying. Kron is most often seen near the rear of the formation mainly when in use with summoner Scarred Llama Mage due to the lethal combo abilities of last stand and heal on Kron.

Since rearguards with heal are relatively expensive as both Earth and Water Elementals are from alpha/beta series while Cornealus and Kron are legend cards.

Conclusions

To further make it a challenge when facing monsters with heal ability is that it can stake with rule set equilibrium or tank heal ability.

image.png

Specifically with tank heal is that when activated tank monster also obtains 1/3 max health. Going back to the example of Kralus if it could perform heal ability and have comrades perform tank heal it can potentially be +8 in health per a turn. Talk about long life....

A cautious warning that although heal is good when executed but there are abilities that can potentially stop the heal from executing. The abilities are Stun and Affliction. It is worth noting a combined total of (34) stun and (13) affliction monsters minus (3) stun and (1) affliction in brawls only monster to get a total of (43) monsters that has potential to neutralize heal. That is a lot of options to neutralize heal.
