Strengthen Students' Cognitive Structure by Using the Advance Organizer Learning Model
Today I want to write about the learning model again, on this occasion the learning model that I will write is the advanced organizer learning model. Some of the points that I will review are about the understanding of the advance organizer learning model, steps for implementing this learning model, and also others that might be an inspiration for us in educating students.
Understanding of advance organizer learning model.
Advance organizer learning model is a learning method which is used to strengthen the cognitive structure of students. Here, every learning process is carried out by providing cognitive road maps that relates any new information to relevant concepts so that students can remember and apply the knowledge they already have.
Advance organizer is used to direct students to the information/material they will learn.
Advance Organizer Aspects
the learning process using the advance organizer model has several aspects that supports the strategy in it, namely to activate students, vary class management, and also to improve learning achievement.
Advance organizer forms
The advance organizer learning model has two main forms, namely:
Expository Advance organizer
This first form is designed when explaining a general idea which has several interconnected parts. This form aims to help expand understanding of concepts for students.Comparative Advance organizer
While the second form of this learning model is designed to integrate new concepts with old concepts that students already have in their cognitive structures. This form aims to sharpen and broaden the understanding of the concept.
Steps in implementing the advance organizer learning model:
Each learning model has different steps when it is applied in the field, for the learning model that we are discussing, the steps we will use are as follows.
Advance organizer presentation
This stage consists of three activities, namely: clarifying learning objectives, presents an organizer which is presented as an introduction material which is presented first before the material is given which aims to integrate, connecting and distinguishing the material to be studied with material that has been studied previously, and build students' cognitive structures.Presentation of lesson materials
At this stage the teacher makes a firm organization, and order the lesson material logically and explicitly, maintaining an atmosphere of attentiveness and presentation of the material.Strengthening of cognitive structures
The last stage aims to place the new subject matter into the cognitive structure of students. We as teachers are advised to try to incorporate new information into the lesson plan that has been planned for starters by reminding students how each specific detail relates to the big picture.
