We all know that evaluation is very necessary in the world of education, it can be a measure of the success of the educational process, especially homeschool-based education.
HOW TO EVALUATE THE HOMESCHOOLING PROCESS
Evaluation in homeschooling is different from formal schools, in public schools, we recognize written exams and report cards that show learning outcomes. Teaching and learning activities took 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, and 11 months a year, only assessed in terms of academic value. However, the level of students' activeness, their courage in expressing their opinions was not a benchmark in assessments in formal schools.
In the homeschooling education process, the evaluation scope is very broad. Not only enough on report cards and exams. Parents not only test based on children's academic achievement, but it also includes the following criteria.
- Achievement of the vision or goals of family education
- Fulfillment of children's psychological needs
- Be happy and enjoy homeschooling activities
- The effectiveness of parental assistance
- The effectiveness of children's activities
- Children's learning outcomes
Evaluation by Comparison
Evaluation in homeschooling learning can be carried out by comparing children's achievements. This is done in two ways: the vision of family education and personality development and children's insight. we need to pay attention to how the personality conditions and children's insights over time.
Thus we can find out whether their development is heading in a good direction after going through the homeschooling process or not. It is also important to pay attention to whether the developments are in harmony with the initial goal or vision of education or not.
Explore children's opinions verbally.
Every time the child learns something new, we have to test their understanding of what is learned by doing an oral test by exploring the opinions or opinions of children. Invite them to argue, so that we know the child's point of view about the material being studied. You can do this since they are still in pre-school age because this form of evaluation is classified as informal.
Ask the child to retell.
This is the most effective way of evaluation to find out children's understanding of the material they are learning. When they retold, of course, their knowledge of new vocabulary will increase. They also understand sentence structure and understand the storyline. From this, we know how they understand an event with their logic of thinking. Do this evaluation in a casual way while chatting and joking so that the child doesn't feel pressured when being tested.
