I work at night, so, when I get home, I usually take a nap for a few hours. This week, so far, I have slept 12 hours. Between trying to find housing, helping April get to her appointments, seeing to the girls' needs, and work, I am juggling a lot of balls.
So, I am deep in slumber this morning, when all of a sudden, there comes a lot of noise, coupled with my youngest waking me up, telling me the cops are at the door and all over the yard and they want to talk to me.
Groggily, I get up and start to dress. I can hear the police outside, but, I have no idea why they are out there. I am thinking that it has to do with April or the meeting I had with CPS yesterday. I thought the meeting had gone well. Maybe I was mistaken.
Dressed, I went to see what was happening.
It seems the police had chased a robbery suspect into the back yard and he had not exited. They thought he might be in the garage, their dog thought the same. they wanted permission to enter. I gave it.
I instructed the girls to huddle in the stairwell, which put as many walls between us and the garage as possible. I went back outside in time to see the police enter the garage, guns drawn, fingers on triggers, dog barking. The dog won the game of hide and seek easily, sniffing out the perp under my friend's work bench hiding under a blanket. The dog grabbed the now pleading man by the left bicep and attempted to drag him out of hiding. The screaming of commands followed shortly and I thought the police might shoot the thief. Luckily, the suspect gave up and let himself be taken into custody.
They walked his bloodied, defeated form into the front yard and used the hose to clean the freely flowing puncture wounds in his arm. He was taken away by ambulance shortly afterwards.
I am staying in a very quiet neighborhood, so, this was a real surprise to everyone. The police just called him a robbery suspect, so, that is all the information I got.
