Realistic characters
The most powerful weapon of the human being is not material, it can't be seen or touched, but it exists, and that's what brought us here: fantasy.
This project is the second in a series of realistic reinterpretations of characters from the world of "manga" (comics in Japanese culture).
As always, I decided to re-propose a well-known character, to satisfy my personal tastes and to make him as iconic as possible. In this case the subject represented is Monkey D. Ruffy.
For the realization of the whole work I used the Photoshop program, dividing it in 3 phases:
STEP 1: Inserting the elements
First, after inserting the basic image (downloaded from the internet) and removing the content leaving only the trace, I started to insert the various elements.
After inserting the outline of the face, the first element that I suggest to insert is the mouth, being one of the most complex parts to make. In addition, by creating it first, you get the idea of how the whole project will look like, because starting from it it is easier to insert all the components with a correct perspective.
Another essential component for good facial performance are the eyes.
For this project I used female eyes as a base (because they are cleaner and more versatile), then I modeled them through the "altera" tool to make them the right shape and size.
Then I inserted the rest of the components: eyebrows, hair, nose, ears, body, etc...
STEP 2: Details
Once I finished inserting the various parts, I started to add the details.
This step is essential for the realization of the hair, because the simple insertion of a lock of hair cut from a photo is not enough to ensure a realistic and convincing effect, but through the brush, manually adding individual hairs, you can easily achieve an excellent result in a short time.
The detail of the scar was, of all people, the most interesting and satisfying to realize because, being an unusual thing, I was very curious about how the final result would be.
STEP 3: Shading
The last phase is perhaps the most important, because it is precisely through the arrangement of light and shadow that the work takes on a three-dimensional and realistic appearance.
The result, especially in my first projects of this series, seems a bit grotesque.
But I think that, having been modelled on drawings that do not reflect the rare anatomy of a human being, this strangeness is one of their strong points.
Personaggi realistici
