Place Value to Hundred Millions - Writing Larger Numbers Many Ways

In grade four students have to know at least numbers to Hundred Millions. They should be able to write these numbers in standard form, in word, in place value form and then in expanded form.

For example; Consider the number  288804796. We can write this number using multiple ways as shown below;

Standard Form:  288 804 796

• In standard form numbers are written in such a way that there is space after the set of three digits from right to left. These spaces (commas sometimes) are the key to read these numbers and write in words. 

In Words:  Two hundred eighty eight Million Eight hundred four Thousands Seven hundred ninety six

• Did you notice each set of three digits is "hundreds, tens ones" and how spaces were used to insert Millions and Thousands to write the number in word form?

Place Value Form: 

• 2 Hundred Millions + 8 Ten Millions + 8 Millions + 8 Hundred Thousands + 4 Thousand + 7 Hundreds + 9 Tens + 6 Ones 

Expanded Form:

200 000 000 + 80 000 000 + 8 000 000 + 800 000 + 4 000 + 700 + 90 + 6
