The concept of time being connected to money is something we are all familiar with. As we grow older, we are always told to get a job and live the 40/40 lifestyle. This means going to work for 40 hours a week for 40 years of our lives. There's nothing wrong with this concept but we can't deny that there is a major flaw in this way of life. In this system, our time is connected to money.

What does this mean?

It means that we earn money depending on how many hours we work, not based on our efforts. To further clarify, I'll share some examples with you. Being a young adult and a recent college graduate, I have had many friends come up to me and complain that their hours were cut for the next work week. Well, why do they complain? Because they know that if they work fewer hours, they will receive less money in their paycheck. Another example is during the holiday season where many people request for more working hours because they know if they work more hours or if they work overtime, they will receive more money in their paycheck.

As for being paid for our time and not our efforts, this can be clearly seen in any working environment. When you really look at all employees in the workplace, there will always be one person that hustles and works extremely hard. But there will also be another person that sits on the job and spends the majority of their time on their phone. Either this or they simply do not work as hard as the previous person and everyone can clearly see the difference in their work ethic. Even though there is a clear difference in the level of performance in these two people, they will still be paid the same. Why? Because their time is connected to money!

An argument can be made about people who get paid by commission since they are paid for their efforts. But when you really look at this model, the payment is still dependent on time. If the person stops generating leads and sales, then the person stops getting paid.

Disconnect your time from your money.

Since we are raised with the concept of maintaining a connection between our time and money, we often don't realize that there are many opportunities around us that allow us to disconnect them. But why would anyone want to disconnect the two?

Our time here on earth is limited. It's an unavoidable fact. If our time is connected to money and our time is limited, then that means that our money is limited as well. Sure, you can get a raise and work more hours, but the paycheck is still dependent on your time. You must take time away from other things in order to receive money. What happens if we disconnect time and money? We can't change the fact that our time on earth is limited, but we can change our money's limitation. If we properly disconnect time and money, we will be creating a system for ourselves that allows us to receive money regardless if we are putting in the hours into our work. This is called passive or residual income.

For many people, this sounds like a fantasy. But it is possible! Imagine taking a day off to spend with a loved one or maybe taking a full week off to go on vacation. Now imagine taking that time off and still having a steady stream of money going into your pocket. This can only happen if you disconnect your time and money so that they function independently of each other.

It sounds great, doesn't it? I want to make sure that you understand that it's not as easy as it sounds. But if you're willing to put in the effort, it is entirely possible. I have been fortunate enough establish this kind of system in my life and I love sharing this information with other people. It requires a system that creates leverage over time, money, and people.
