Lineart: Defined lines, based on the sketch.
Base color: Filling the blank spaces inside the lines with their corresponding color. Remember that you can change the shades. Generally the keys to activate these options in a layer are Ctrl+U. (On a PC)
Lights and shadows: Here the respective brightness and darkness are applied to each object to give it depth, taking into account the intensity of the light, where it comes from, and how many lighting points there are.
