There are so many reasons people cheat. Most times, it is not in one's joy to cheat but the thing that led to one cheating could be what one can not cope with. Some cheat to gain more advantage in something, some cheat to attain their desired height in life, not minding what it takes. Also, people cheat when they feel they are in control and can't be caught. In the aspect of a relationship, lack of satisfaction from a partner can lead one to cheat, infidelity, and not meeting partners' needs may make one cheat. There are so many things that can make one choose to follow that path of dishonesty.
Truth be told, I have cheated, and we all have cheated in one way or the other, cheating is a dishonest act and cannot be justified. What makes life better is living a life of honesty and trying to overcome the temptation that comes with cheating others for our own personal gain.
I will be sharing a story of how a sales girl cheated me. Yeah, I was heading to work in the morning, and I saw a beautiful mannequin dress in a shop. I couldn't stop because going to bargain would definitely take up my time, making me late for work. On my way back, I stopped at the shop, the woman I saw in the morning, happened to be the shop owner.
She informed me that the cost was N6,000 at first, but after much bargain, she agreed on N4,000. I told her if the dress had not been taken by the end of the month, I would return for it.
At month-end, I went back to the shop for the dress. That day, I didn't meet the woman but a new person. A girl in the shop, I told her about the dress, and she was able to identify it quickly. She brought it out for me, and I asked her if her madam was around so I could pay.
She told me her madam traveled to Aba for new stocks. I told her her madam agreed that I should pay N4,000 for the dress. The girl shouted in shock that her madam can't agree to sell a dress of such for N4,000. She added that before she left for Aba, she strictly warned her not to sell the dress for anything less than N5,000.
I was disappointed. I couldn't help but add N1000 to purchase the dress. I didn't bother checking the shop again because I was not happy with what happened. One day, she saw me and waved, smiling happily, which pushed me to come and ask her why she had to change the price after our agreement.
After I narrated the story to her, she felt so bad and disappointed at her salesgirl disloyalty and pleaded on her behalf,when she was called to speak, she could but only ashamed. I know for the girl she didn't see it as cheating, as she assumed she wouldn't get caught and also gaines extra cash without her madam knowing. But one thing with cheating is that one day, one act would bring all the deceptive acts to light. The woman didn't wait until month-end to send the girl out, as I stopped seeing the girl in the shop.
Apart from this incident, I have been cheated from so many angles, mostly in the money aspect. I remember when we did some group work in a company, the manager gave the money to one of us, with the amounts to give each of us. The lady ended up giving us the amount she felt was okay for us, not considering that her share was larger than ours in the first place. Adding ours to hers was like her eating three times of what we have.
It was later we discovered she cheated us. That feeling of being cheated didn't vanish for a long time, and that made me stop that work. While others continued, I stopped because I couldn't because I lost my trust for her,also I couldn't stand the hurt of working more than someone, and the person ends up eating my own share with her own larger share.
The truth remains that no matter how much we have been cheated in life, the hurt and the disappointment cannot make us see everyone as a cheat. The number of disappointments and distrust I have felt from people as a result of cheating does not make me define everyone as a cheat. The only way that helps me overcome cheating is that I don't rush into buying an item, I'm always very careful, wise, and I bargain a lot with sellers and everyone. Although cheating is inevitable, being wise and not rushing can help one sense when one is being cheated.
