Everyone can not be the same and that’s true, but I believe that everyone knows the difference between what is right and what is bad, but the problem is that, sometimes we just chose not care about doing the right thing. When it comes to issues of littering most of us know the right thing to do to keep our environment clean, but sometimes, some people still choose not to because they feel it’s not necessary
Personally, I feel that having a good environment start with me and you, because the government cannot be everywhere , we can contribute our quota in our own little way. We can not always wait for the government to tell us what to do when we know what’s right. Sometimes I imagine how some people throw their food packages anywhere on the road comfortably and then walk away without feeling guilty.
I have witnessed improper waste disposal many times , most especially when I’m in a public transport , most people will buy food and snacks by the roadside and when they are done with food , the throw the packages on the road through the window and they did not see it as big deal. For me, no matter how small the waste I have, I don’t feel comfortable throwing it on the roadside. If I don’t see a place to dispose it, I would rather keep it inside my bag properly and discard it in my dustbin when I get home. It may look like a very small thing, but I believe that all these small actions matter. If everyone can be like that, our environment will be free from hazards caused by improper waste management.
This issue also brings me to something I’ve noticed in this part of the world. I believe that everyone should be responsible for their actions but in some ways , it seems like people like us with with less money and influence are the one who face more consequences of not obeying rules, while those with influences, those who owns big companies can sometimes avoid consequences, that’s a crazy system. However, I’m not saying everyone who are rich or big companies breaks rules and gets away with it, but I’m insinuating that everyone should be responsible for littering the environment.
The sad part is that, most people who are often affected by improper waste management are those who have no money to deal with it. Most of them live in an area that is easily affected with flooding , and this is caused by blocked drainage from recurring littering, it affects the livelihoods of majority of them, people who have money might relocate from the areas but people who don’t have money will have no choice but remain in the affected areas.
This is enough reason why individuals should be held accountable for their actions. I see littering as the same thing no matter how small or big it might seem. Government should also do better by providing a good waste management system and not only that, they should also enforce environmental laws fairly. I want a system where, If an ordinary person can be punished for littering, a company that causes much greater environmental damage should also be held accountable and be punished as well.
