—Ay, amor, no te pongas sentimental —me respondió mi esposo—.
Carlos rompió a reír.

My Best Costume
Greetings, friends who love horror stories. 💁☀️
Happy start to the week, everyone!
Today I want to share a story inspired by the recent Halloween celebration. I hope you enjoy it and that, by the time you reach the end, it gives you a little shiver or two. 👻
My Best Costume
—What's wrong, darling? Didn't you enjoy Halloween night? —Carlos asked as he helped me take off my witch's hat.
—Of course I did, but I don't know... I felt a little sentimental. I thought about my father. He loved this night. He always enjoyed dressing up as different characters. I remember the time he dressed up as a vampire. What a shock I got when I saw him!
—Come on, darling, don't get sentimental —my husband replied—. Have you forgotten that you have your very own Big Bad Wolf right here?
Laughing, Carlos lunged toward me, growling like a Big Bad Wolf and making me burst out laughing.
When it was time for bed, we headed to our bedroom. We had two beds there: ours and the one my father had always used. Since his death, no one had slept in it again.
We settled in while I listened to the steady hum of the fan, a sound I was so used to that, in a way, it lulled me to sleep.
But well past midnight...
—Cri, cri!
A strange noise, very different from the fan's usual hum, woke us up.
—Did you hear that, darling? —I asked.
We immediately turned on the light and, to our surprise, the fan had shifted, base and all, until it was facing my father's bed.
—How strange! —Carlos remarked as he got up to put it back in its place. Then he secured the base and placed a heavy object on it to keep it from moving again.
—There, now we can sleep peacefully —he said, turning off the light.
Only a few minutes had passed when we heard that sound again, this time much louder.
—Criiiii!
We turned on the light and stared in amazement. The base was still in place, but the fan head had turned, pointing directly toward my father's bed.
—Oh, Carlos! Could they be ghosts? Remember, it's Halloween! —I said, unable to hide my astonishment.
Carlos burst out laughing.
—Ha, ha, ha! Don't tell me you're going to start believing in ghosts! Or worse, that it's your father's ghost! Boo!
Suddenly, the fan stopped, the light went out, and a whisper coming from the darkness made us shudder:
—That's right, son-in-law! Don't you think this is my best Halloween costume?
