I've heard and have been given a lot of advice in the past, but thinking about it now, one actually stood out for me, as it is now something I also advise people of. And it is that; take care of yourself/health.
Take Care Of Yourself First.
I'd believe I was strong enough then; maybe I was just hustling. I'm involved in different kinds of things just to be a man. Right from the onset, I've been the type to not rely on people, including my parents. Right from my junior secondary school, I've been buying uniforms, sandals, bags, books, textbooks, Christmas clothes, and the like for myself. Yeah, that was the kind of child I was. So, I hustle, go for tiling works, go for house cleaning, and such. The only things I was focused on then were school and work; I never bothered about my health.
Now, I can say it was one of the biggest mistakes I made. Because my health came after me. It didn't just come at me; it came hard, and it disrupted my journey and affected every aspect of my life... Later had to spend years on the hospital bed, doing various tests and surgeries. My education was put on hold, my family ran into debts, and... It was just a lot. It was a painful season of life for me, and it changed how I see life.
That particular experience taught me a lot, one of which is now that it is your health first. Every other thing can wait; even if it is an opportunity, it can wait; tend to your health first. And it's one thing I now make known wherever it is I'm working... I'm very selfish when it comes to my health. I've had enough experience to not ever joke with any slight discomfort again.
And about if people learn from either mistakes or advice, I feel people learn from both. Just that, mistakes often leave the deepest lessons. A lot of us receive advice and take it with levity. We never know what we are being saved from. Most people only fully understand it when they finally experience it or make a mistake and are left to face its consequences.
There are a lot of things to learn from today; we should be able to learn from people's experiences and take advice. If someone's advice or experience can make you avoid a painful lesson, then why not learn from it rather than going ahead to make the same mistakes again yourself? Some prefer to make their own mistakes, though I really do not have anything to say, but then it will cost them greatly in the long run. For me, I would rather learn from people's experiences/mistakes and take advice than repeat mistakes and face the same or a much worse consequence.
