Greed is one of the major causes of suffering in the world today. Many individuals, particularly those who are wealthy, often focus mainly on gathering more riches for themselves and securing financial comfort for future generations. In doing so, they sometimes overlook the struggles and needs of the less privileged people around them.
This attitude is one of the reasons the gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow wider. As Bro. Eli explained, the rich often become richer while the poor become poorer because many people pursue wealth with a self-centered mindset rather than considering the welfare of others.
Greed has also played a significant role in the hardships that humanity is currently facing. According to Bro. Eli, if the wealthiest people in the world were willing to share even a small portion—such as the interest from their wealth—with those who are in need, especially in regions like Africa, problems such as hunger and extreme poverty could be greatly reduced. Unfortunately, greed often prevents people from offering such help, and as a result, suffering continues.
In addition, the desire for profit has led to the reckless exploitation of natural resources. Forests are cut down without efforts to replace them, and the environment is harmed in the pursuit of financial gain. These actions have contributed to environmental disasters such as floods, landslides, and other calamities that affect people across the globe.
In the Bible, Jesus said in the Book of John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” This verse reminds us that challenges and trials are part of life. Nevertheless, we are encouraged because Christ has already overcome the world, giving believers hope, courage, and peace even during difficult times.
In conclusion, tribulation is an unavoidable part of life, and human greed has made many of the world’s problems worse. However, through faith in Christ, we can find strength, hope, and reassurance no matter what difficulties we face.
