Encouraging the Youth.
Bro. Eli once said something deeply profound: “You cannot force someone to serve what they don’t believe in.” This is so true. Many parents or guardians often think they can compel their children to serve God or be active in church. But when service is driven by pressure or fear, it becomes meaningless. The child ends up serving to please the parents, not God perhaps thinking, “If I don’t do this, my parents will be angry or disappointed.”
With that kind of mindset, the service loses its true value. Allowing the youth to know God personally helps them discover their purpose in serving Him. It also helps them understand the importance of doing so while they are still young. As the saying goes, “You can lead a horse to the stream, but you can’t force it to drink.”
From my own experience, there was a time my dad would always push me to go to church and stay committed. I did everything he asked, but in my heart, I was only doing it to make him happy or maybe because I thought he wanted others to see that his children had good morals. I even planned that once I moved out, I’d stop going altogether. Little did I know that my dad’s insistence was actually for my good.
One day, he called me and asked me to study the Bible for a week. I obeyed and that single week changed everything. From then on, my perspective shifted completely. Today, I’m the one encouraging my dad to attend church activities!
The lesson I’ve learned is this: the best way to guide young people is not by forcing them, but by encouraging them. Teach them that the best time to serve God is now, while they have strength, energy, and zeal. Remind them that youth doesn’t last forever a time will come when they won’t be able to do some of the things they can now. And when that time comes, the seeds of their youthful service will bear fruit.
