The clouds were gathering heavily with the promise of rain. The thick humidity in the air made it difficult for me to breathe. The streets were almost empty, except for people on last minute shoot before the storm. It was a day that seemed to smother all my hope and joy, leaving me only to my despair and gloom.

Seated there on the hard concrete, I felt the weight of the world pressing down on me. My two bags, fully packed, with everything I could call my own in this world. I looked up, all I could see were passersby rushing home to avoid the incoming storm. I couldn't blame them for not noticing my pain. They're probably caught up in their own lives too. I sighed, I felt utterly alone.

But then, a soft hand touched my shoulder. I turned, and there was a kind, old man who wore a gentle smile. "Are you okay?" he asked.

I tried to speak but my throat felt dry. I shook my head instead, the words to express my sorrow were lacking.

I guess he noticed as he asked "Would you like to talk?. About it?"

I nodded.

The old man gradually pushed my bags aside and sat down next to me. In his eyes was compassion, and I felt this stirring of hope within me. After much tears, I finally found the willpower to narrate my story. I spilled it all out to him – how sickness took my husband, and how the bank snatched everything I had because I couldn't cough up the loan for his treatment. How I had nowhere to go, I was drowning in my fears for tomorrow. As my words escaped, tears flowed down my cheeks.

The man listened, without judgement or condemnation, just kindness and understanding. When I finished, he took my hands and spoke. "You've been through a lot," he said, "and it's very understandable that you feel this way

"But," he continued, "I want you to know that this is not the end of your story. You still have your whole life ahead of you, you still have a future and anything is possible. You may not see it now, but there is hope for a better future." He paused again . "I've got an empty barn I could let you stay for free. My son works at the big factory in town,I could ask him to get you a job to help you get back on your feet. If only you would accept and come with me" he concluded.

"Thank you," I replied."I'd love that". I felt my burden gradually lifted off my shoulders. I felt lightness in my heart.

The man stood, picked up my bags and with a smile he said "Come on, we better get going before the storm comes. My car is parked just down the street."
