It's a pleasure to share some of my work with you, and today I want to share a simple pattern for making a cute short strappy dress—this time for myself. MATERIALES

MATERIALS

  • tiza
  • Tijeras
  • elástico
  • Hilo
  • Máquina de coser

For some time now, I've wanted to make myself a short dress, but I was very hesitant because I'm a little overweight. However, due to a mistake I made while sewing clothes recently, I bought a lot of fabric from one of the dresses I made, and I ended up with 1 meter of brown ribbed fabric. This fabric has some writing on it, which I didn't notice when I bought it, and it's not suitable for making clothes to sell. So, I decided to make the dress with this fabric and see how it would look on me. So, let's get started! Here's the list of materials you'll need.

  • One meter of elastic fabric (in my case, I'm using rib knit)
  • Measuring tape
  • Chalk
  • Scissors
  • Elastic
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine

PASO A PASO

STEP BY STEP

I'll start with making the skirt. For this, we'll mark 23 cm wide at the top, mark 4 cm down at the corner of the fold and make a semi-curve. From there, we'll mark 52 cm for the length, making a semi-circle, and the side will be diagonal. In my images, I'll show you how it should look.

Now we're going to make the blouse for this dress. We'll make the front part, which will be fitted. For this, we'll place our fabric about 20 cm wide, folded to cut both parts at the same time. We'll mark 9 cm on the side, then we'll make a mark at 25 cm, which will be the length of our blouse. For the bust neckline, we'll make a mark at 10 cm. We'll join the 10 cm mark with the 9 cm mark. To make the waist, we'll tuck 3 cm inwards at the bottom and make a diagonal mark from the 9 cm mark.

For the back, place the front piece on the fabric folded in half and cut evenly all around, leaving an extra 2 cm at the top edge to attach elastic to the back neckline. In my images, I show you how it should look. Separately, cut four strips of your preferred thickness. I'm going to do it this way so that the strips can be tied at the shoulder area.

In this step we'll start with the seams. First, I'll begin by sewing the four strips for the top of the dress. Once they're ready, I'll place them in the correct position, joining them with the front pieces of the dress. This will create a snug fit, and I really like this finish on the seams.

We'll continue attaching the elastic to the back at the top edge. I'm using elastic that's about 2 cm wide. Then we'll join it to the front pieces, folding the edge over so it fits snugly. The elastic I'm using is light-colored, but this is on the inside, so it won't be visible. Then we'll hem it and insert the straps that go at the back.

In this step, we're going to attach the skirt to the dress. First, we sew the two skirt pieces together along the sides. Then, we adjust it to the waist measurement of the blouse. If it's a little too wide, we can stretch it while sewing. Next, we hem it, and there you have it—this cute short strappy dress is finished!

I really like how it turned out. The only thing is, I think it's a little short, so I'll wait until I buy some more of this fabric to lengthen it. Honestly, I don't dare wear such a short dress! 🤭 That's all for today, friends. Goodbye, wishing you many blessings. Until next time!
