RE: Animal stories
Thanks! Not that I don't get shut up in front of a computer myself--or lost in the pages of a book--but it really is sad how people don't seem to take the time to enjoy nature anymore. My wife works with

RE: Animal stories
I should have identified that little guy! He's a pocket gopher, native to North and Central America. They're great tunnelers, with sharp claws and teeth, and they tend to destroy gardens and lawns--not

A red-footed tortoise, huh? That's a good looking one! I kind of like the idea of my pet outlasting me; I'm not looking forward to the day when my dog passes away. I've had two chances to get a photo of

RE: Old Firefighters Never Die: They Just Smell Smoky
I just recorded something new they're calling "Top Gear", but I haven't seen it yet--maybe they're sticking with that name here in America. Or more likely it's something else completely different,

Ah, I do miss the Top Gear guys ... sadly, I don't get Amazon. The original Top Gear was still on the air with a different cast, last I heard--but it just isn't the same.

An electric car race, huh? I like it! I'm sure those cars are well insulated from problems with rain, or puddles, or anything like that. When they catch on fire, or when they crash and someone's pinned

Yep, that's the way it happens at Indy Car races ... I don't know about NASCAR. Honestly, I don't watch much racing one way or another, so I've mostly seen this in training. Water works on the small ones

Yep, that's exactly what we do in cases like that: controlled burns, protecting the exposures and limiting runoff. And alcohol is way worse than most flammable liquids, being not only more volatile but

That's exactly right: With certain types of materials, you're much better letting it burn off than fight it, to prevent contamination. A lot of hazardous materials are destroyed by high temperatures, so

Thank you! I could never leave the writing. I suppose everyone has something they're addicted to--I couldn't go a week without working on my writing.

Thanks! I'm glad you got a chance to serve, even if it was in a different capacity. As for the pain, well--that's just the way things go when you don't take care of yourself while you're young.

That fire was a loser from the beginning. Giant wooden building full of booze--I'm glad we don't have something like that! Just a regular giant wooden building burning is bad enough.

Thanks! That's sad to hear, about your fire department. We all have our issues with getting what we need, but some people have more trouble with that than others. In general firefighters consider themselves
