Be a Helpful Mediator
“Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.” (Galatians 3:20)
I’m often asked to arrange strategic partnerships for my clients in which two or more organizations combine efforts and resources to achieve related goals.
A retail store, a university admissions department, and a publisher might work together on a campaign that gives college students a free book if they register for class before a certain deadline.
The publisher gets titles in front of a target audience, the university gets the registration process finished sooner, and the retailer connects with potential customers.
The challenge is getting all three (or more) entities to agree on everything in a timely manner—and that’s where the mediator comes in handy.
The mediator’s job is to make the partnership work. He works for the alliance, not for the individual players, so his goal is to seek agreement from the individuals for the sake of the whole.
