It was a nice and very warm day. The maximum temperature today was 26 C at 6 pm. My daughter and I went for a swim and afterwards, I drove us to take a look at the area we used to live in a few years ago.

First the beach:

This is Lake Kymijärvi. The beach is in the district of Kaukkari on the northern shore of the lake. I picked this beach because it wouldn't be sunny on most spots on the south side of the lake or any lake for that matter. It was a good choice because we found a sunny spot close to the water.

That one is close to the public beach and it did have a stretch of the waterfront of its own.

There are lots of waterfront properties here.

Somewhere near this residential area there would've been a beach, too, but it would've lacked direct sunlight. The water felt cold, which is why the sunshine was nice.

Some guy on a SUP board

He came from there. According to the privacy laws, I can't take any photos of that platform if there is anyone on it or near it. But I can shoot that guy on the board to my heart's content as long as he off the property. A board like that is not a houseboat that could be considered a space protected by privacy laws. He's free game. Documenting what was doing in a public space like that is perfectly legal as that photo does not embarrass him in any way. In fact, it would be hard to even recognize him.

After swimming, I went for a walk to the nearby forest.

What on Earth could that be? A former anti-aircraft gun emplacement? But why? To protect the railway? (There is a railway to some factories in Heinola nearby.)

A port-a-potty on the path to the beach from the parking area.

Under normal market conditions, this one could be worth maybe €400,000.

There were no free spaces when we came. But there was no one at the beach but us.

Last time I saw this it was under construction.

Probably built in the 1970's. The distict of Kaukkari has a mix of rintamamiestalos built between the 1940s and the 1950s newer from every decade.

This one is very exotic. It looks highly unusual for a house in Finland.

Crossing the railway I mentioned earlier.

My daughter's former school a couple of kilometers north of Kaukkari.

We used to live in two of these row houses. We were unlucky in that our first home was renovated about seven months before moved to our current home. Both places were rentals. One extra move. Expensive and a major nuisance.
