The one detail that works well to characterize this chapter of Didion's life in New York City is the change in season that occurs while she is explaining the things she experienced while at a young age in New York City. Didion's experiences in New York moved from adventurous and fulfilling to dull and draining. Her time in New York was a phase that emotionally forced her to move on to LA, similar to how the change from summer to winter forces us to physically find warmth. The senses that this draws on are all of them. Weather affects all of your senses just as her time in the city affected her's. A detail that i relate to in this story is the idea that she has a unique relationship to her city just i have a unique relationship to my hometown.
