I always get stressed by things that I can't control and much more when things happen that I didn't expect and that I didn't want to happen, for some days I hated being told things happen for a reason or things happen for a reason, the exact order of things. I don't really remember the words, what I do remember very well was the effect they had on my mind, I think that at the moment something so transcendental happens to us we don't see that phrase as something logical or rational.
On September 6 we suffered a great family loss, my brother-in-law died, sometimes it is difficult to accept things that happen, my brother-in-law was diabetic, he was hospitalized for a cleaning that they were going to do on his foot, which had gotten sick three months before (The feet are the Achilles heel of diabetics, when glucose levels are very high and the nerves and blood vessels are damaged, what is called diabetic neuropathy occurs). It was something simple, according to what they told us, but it had to be done in the operating room, because a lot of skin had to be removed, they injected him with insulin for the first time they applied that, his glucose dropped too much, he went into a diabetic coma, he woke up 6 hours later, as if nothing had happened, he shared , he ate food, he fell asleep, he returned to the diabetic coma and we did not realize it, the truth is that he did not wake up again, we lived a few days full of anguish, it was something like a nightmare that we could not believe, it was difficult for us to accept and understand it his current state, he practically entered "healthy" on his own and consciously, the possibility of cutting off his foot was not even mentioned, it never occurred to us that this would be his end, they were strong days, of tireless struggle, of seeking how much medicine they requested to try to save him, everything humanly possible was done.
Things happen for a reason, it is the phrase that I heard the most in the days when my brother-in-law died, words that were told to make us feel better but that made me very uncomfortable, to the point that I walked away so as not to give a bad answer. I asked myself internally what we had to learn from all this? I am such a believer and positive, I like to always look for the good side of things, but with so much pain it was impossible to get something positive out of that tragedy, every day I became more convinced that things don't happen for a reason, that that phrase It was made only as a spiritual soothing to take us away from the pain a little, to calm the anguish in those stormy moments or to make us understand that things happen at a certain moment, but for me that was just a phrase made and repeated without any valid argument.
The truth is that although death is the safest thing we all have, we are not prepared or able to accept it and when it arrives so unexpectedly it is more difficult to assimilate.
My sister and my nephews battled hard with that disease, getting money from where they had not borrowed, selling things, my brother-in-law did not lack medical attention or medicine, but he still died, was that what had to happen? Why does God do things? God was in control, everything happened according to his will? I am sure that not all of us in the family who were present asked all those questions, afraid of the answers.
Already a month after my brother-in-law died, I remembered a message of condolences that a Dr placed in his WhatsApp status, it said something more or less like this, my sincere words of condolences to the entire Perales González family, a family of which Despite the circumstance, I took away a great lesson, I never saw a family so united, supportive and with so much love between them in the midst of so much sadness I could not value the message instantly, now more relaxed, with my mind clear, I He questioned if that was why what happened with my brother-in-law happened to unite us more as a family, maybe he was going to die at another time when the family was so dispersed and far away, but God chose that ideal moment to reunite us, to make us leave our comfort zone wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, friends, we really were a big family that supported each other, we filled each other with affection, we were all for everyone, we seemed like ants each with a function, only inside the hospital 2 people could stay, but more than 10 people stayed outside the hospital daily, willing to collaborate in whatever was offered because being hospitalized in Venezuela is a great challenge, you have to be active looking for a budget, where to carry out an evaluation, get the specialist, medicines or supplies, 2 or 3 people were not enough, thank God we were all present, my brother-in-law's illness reaffirmed us as a family
Talking to my sister who is still very sad, she told me that he was not going to resist having his foot or leg amputated, a point that one of the doctors had already mentioned after a week in a coma, that the damage to the foot reached the bone.
Now I get the phrase "things happen for something" that I had spent days turning around in my head looking for meaning, it could be that God wanted my brother-in-law to die, to prevent us from seeing him suffer without a part of his body, with that I stay and with the lesson to make us see how lucky we are to belong to this family and that God's timing is perfect
