Direction Portugal, not far from Lisbon and near the ocean stands a new contemporary hotel, fruit of the work of the studio Aurora Arquitectos.
The interior of the building was in ruins, only its roof and its four walls were still standing. Its complex geometry, with four pyramidal wedge volumes, determined the structure of the project and the interior partitions, dividing the plan into 9 modules. In the central module, a staircase joins the three levels, diffusing its yellow chick color and the natural light coming from skylights in the roof. Its drastically rounded corners conceal all the vertical services of the building.
The architects were asked to consider the project as having a high level of flexibility in terms of future use. A youth hostel at the beginning, able to become a single family house afterwards with few changes. This is how the autonomous volumes containing the bathrooms appeared, easily removable if you want bigger rooms. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, each with a bathroom in an autonomous volume. At the entrance level, there is the reception, common areas that can be used by all guests - kitchen and dining / living room. The semi-basement is also occupied by rooms. There is an exterior passage, entirely painted in blue, which directly connects the front of the house with the back patio. This east-facing patio with two trees serves as an outdoor lounge.
