A favorite for this house in Norway by the Danish practice Norm Architects! It has a beautiful and comfortable living room with wide windows overlooking a picturesque forest and lake.

The Gjøvik house is about an hour's drive north of Oslo. The property is composed of six interconnected blocks in a layout creating nooks and level changes that vaguely define the areas. Throughout, Norm Architects used a simple system of gray-speckled walls, earth-colored textiles and warm wood paneling to achieve a simple but comfortable interior atmosphere - a key feature of the Scandinavian hygge concept.

After carefully examining the climate in the home design process, the idea was to provide a comfortable and inviting feeling, where you can really hibernate. The kitchen is the center piece of the house with adjacent blocks around it: a laundry room, a bathroom and a bedroom. The floor-to-ceiling windows on the side of the kitchen flood the light space, while the peripheral blocks have fewer windows to create a different atmosphere. Outside, the façades are uniformly dressed with thin vertical wooden planks, designed to age with time and help to better integrate the building in its natural setting.
