Ecological Shop - 100% self-sufficient quantum dot and kinetic floor shop
The first store in the "Żabka" chain of grocery stores was opened, which uses 100 percent renewable energy. This modern store is a conglomerate of technological solutions that will also be used in other stores of this chain. Among them are innovations on a global scale, such as the quantum dot and the kinetic floor. It is located in Poland, near Warsaw.
What solutions have been introduced in this futuristic store?
- photovoltaic (40 photovoltaic panels are installed on the store's roof)
- the use of quantum dot technology (glass with quantum dots extracting energy from sunlight)
- kinetic floor that turns steps into energy - the floor in the store uses modern pressure plate technology, which turns each step into environmentally friendly energy that is used to power the devices installed in the store
- anti-smog block supplemented with a green plant wall that absorbs dust and smog
- There is also an EKOmat and an electric car charging station in front of the store
About 20 different environmentally friendly solutions have been installed in the store and its surroundings. This is not just empty talk - the store is packed with many innovations and is already open to customers and functioning.

Green energy
electricity in Żabka comes from 100 percent. from renewable sources, and above all from solar energy, which thanks to storage works around the clock regardless of the weather, and from a wind farm. The intelligent refrigerator door is an innovative technological solution that reduces the amount of escaping energy. Just put your hand on the door and the louvered door will open - it is a great convenience and at the same time saves energy. The store also has intelligent electronic labels with prices and intelligent digital signage screens, which are the digital equivalent of the posters used so far (saving paper). Both solutions are powered by green energy. Green energy can also be used directly by network customers - an ecological solar bench has been erected in front of the store, thanks to which you can charge your phone. Annually, solar panels benches produce 80 kWh of energy - that's 16 thousand. hours of charging a standard smartphone.
Second Life
The store saves water by installing aerators in the store, which reduce water consumption by up to 50%. There is also a 2,200-liter rainwater tank under the building. Additionally, wherever possible, the water in the store goes into a closed circuit - when it is not raining, it is rainwater from the tank and from the store that the plants are watered.
In Żabka, there is also a wall for a technical room with 1000 PET bottles of beverages (up to 14 kg of plastic), collected by store designers. The furniture and the ceiling in the facility also have an interesting history - they are made of recycled materials while reducing fossil fuels. The production process itself uses waste from wood processing in a technology that produces a minimal amount of carbon dioxide. The paper boxes for products are made of recycled paper, which is also experiencing its second life. The store implements a closed-loop economy, also encouraging customers to give packaging a second life, which is why the EKOmat - a device for collecting bottles and cans is standing in front of the store.
Clean Air
Plants are a great method of air purification. Żabka's vertical garden produces oxygen, absorbs harmful compounds from the air and dust, and looks beautiful. Plants grow right next to the parking lot and absorb up to 85% of the exhaust gases that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. In combination with the anti-smog paving effect, it gives the effect of clean air. The anti-smog paving stone laid in front of the store has a photocatalytic surface consisting of titanium dioxide nanoparticles. The cube reduces the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the air by an average of approx. 50%. compared to asphalt.
Green transport
The store promotes the Smart City idea and extends a helping hand to electric car drivers, providing them with a vehicle charging station. The network also does not forget about cyclists. A bicycle repair station next to the store will allow you to quickly adjust the brakes and gears, inflate the wheels, and make emergency repairs.
